A change is always going to met with criticism, and boxing fans are renound for meeting any sort of alteration to their beloved sport with great suspicion! Ok, so obviously people are going to view this open scoring system as somewhat of an irritating 'spoiler', which I guess is right. If by the 9th round a boxer is up by 7 rnds against a featherfisted opponent then you may aswell turn off the tele and have an indepth and fullfilling conversation with your beloved wife.... On the other hand, if an opponent knows the are officially down on the score cards, this could provide motivation to go for the knockout and not rely on surviving and maybe getting lucky on the cards, which could possibly provide greater entertainment, which is why we watch the sport. Really though, If you believe everything a boxing 'syndicate' does is egoistic in nature, then this 'open scoring' is simply cosmetic, so people think there is no 'post fight score tampering' or 'home cooking' going on, (Ala promoters sicking their beaks into the scoring cards whispering grand sums and/or threats....) It also kills off any suspense which could be experienced when the fighters stand mid ring waiting for the result, you can replace the timeless ''....AND STILL...!'' with the not so pithy ''....Ladies and gentleman, as you already know......'' I want the ''....AND STILL...!'', I love the '....'AND STILL....!''..... Leave it alone you *******s...! Open scoring is like showing the lotto numbers, then rolling the balls...I want the suspense, tension.....So does Jimmy lennon, he gets paid 20,000 for the ''....And still!...'' And dont think open scoring adds ''transparency'', we aren't stupid. Transparency and boxing seperated decades ago... I'm itching to know what you wonderful fans of boxing think.... Its truly awful, for the majority of people who still had the fight close last night and actually scored the fight objectively (unlike the judges) it affected who won the last round. If Canelo had actually put in some effort i would have had him winning on my card and not Trout.
its not bad if the judges arent low self esteem butt ****ers who are being fed the green by beneficiaries give us judges with moral grounding and i'll give you a good scrap that fans are happyto see to the end
There needs to be a sort of independent scoring commision, (like FIFA is to soccer,) and the judges picked at random (like a jury) and the WBC pays this commision - not the judges personally, (which I gather is what they do)? Then again why would this happen, noone seems to give a toss about boxing morals...
still the same with the traditional scoring: crap judging exists in boxing. Im starting to appreciate amateur scoring tho, but I hated them!
there is good and there is bad. the good thing is that a boxer getting robbed will be warned before the fight is over and can therefore go for the ko.
IMO open scoring it is not a bad thing. The BAD THING is a supposed judge scoring it 118-110 for Canelo. Was this man watching the fight or he was in the bathroom? Can't understand it.
1) it enables the winning fighter to get on his bike when he otherwise wouldn't (as we saw Canelo do) 2) it encourages the losing fighter to leave his style and expose himself to getting hurt (as we saw Trout do) 3) it takes a bunch of the suspense away from fan (as we saw last night) 4) it ****ing sucks.
Hmm, I guess just leave the damn thing alone! Last rd could've been more exciting w/o it..... plus the final announcement like the TS said, etc
It just lets you know your being robbed 4 rounds sooner, hearing the score in round 8 doesnt mean it will prevent robberies I look back to the closet classic of Mormeck vs Bell 1 a great cruiserweight unification fight from the mid 2000's Bell was behind in the 10th and came from behind to KO Mormeck in the rematch Mormeck was boxing him well seemed like a close fight, Bell was also hurting him. In round 8 Mormeck heard the scores and mathematically could have coasted and did. If there was no open scoring it may have played out like fight one, Mormeck knew he was probably ahead but had to fight anyway and Bell would have had opportunities to score some kind of KO or at least have a fight to the finish Also it ruins it for the fans, anybody notice they put the belt on Canelos waist before they called the winner, ****ing ruined it
It kinda spoiled this fight. People moan about scoring, but doesn't scoring lose credibility when obviously, Canelo knowing he won by the 8th round, decided to get on his bike? (thus giving rounds away) Open scoring has no place in boxing IMO.
People fail to realize that Canelo put on the brakes because he KNEW he was ahead. Had he not known that, it would've been a war. Canelo did the smart thing last night. He's a fighter, not the judges. Can't blame him
I don't think it is people are crying about it but if you KNOW you are down after only 4 rounds you better start to step it up. Trout has nobody to blame but himself. You have to pick it up and adapt that is what Boxing is about if you are down why sit back and throw Jabs all night? You have to take chances at that point. he didn't.
It's horrible because it affects the integrity of the fight by influencing the fight with the official scores. It takes away suspense if a perceived close fight is not close on the cards. It also rakes away the momentum of the fight. I don't like it at all.
