Didn't just finish the fight, he stuck around to do a post-fight interview (that was mercifully cut short when he couldn't talk) then went and hung around in the dressing room for a long time. Can't remember if it was here or somewhere else but I saw a local poster say there were some delays with the post-fight urine test or something. It was a wild scene!
I was there backstage with him. A surreal moment, just me and him... not that he could say a damn word
Speaking as a big fan of both and as someone who really doesn't want either to lose, I hope it goes the distance and it's another close and exciting affair where both emerge with credit. To an extent, this reminds me of the Donaire-Inoue rematch. Briedis is two years older and Opetaia is two years better. I have the Aussie stopping the Latvian mid fight. In any event, I am definitely looking forward to this one.
Briedis is a bit of a student of the game, his comments on Fury vs Ngannou were both hilarious and on point!
I haven't actually watched the Briedis videos yet and annoyingly I can't watch the one on the Usyk fight because the subtitles have a dark border around them and I can't see them properly. I'll watch the Fury vs Ngannou one later.
Even though this was a one-sided affair for the first half of the fight, the back half, and in particular the last third of it really delivered the excitement and whilst Briedis has declined more he actually had more left than I was expecting and he looked good when he started being more aggressive. It's crazy to think he might still be the #2 CW in the world at 39 y/o. And he doesn't receive enough credit for his toughness and durability . Not only has he never been stopped or dropped but I've literally never seen him hurt. He was hurt in the first Jai fight but that was ''ouch you just shattered by nose'' hurt not hurt hurt. And Jai 's skills are P4P top 10 calibre and he's one seriously tough SOB himself. I could watch these two fight each other a dozen times. Elite skills, heart, toughness, power, can fight or box etc. they got it all This content is protected
Thanks Yeah he did and that was edge of your seat stuff and it got me even more pumped for the main event
Same. That fight went from having a steady flow and then it just amplified put of nowhere. Almost like foreshadowing to Usyk turning it up a gear in round 7.
Yep. I was watching, but not as attentitively as I might of been when I was rolling a number near that last third of the fight, and then suddenly that was one the backburner as my eyes were relocked back on the TV.
I was paying attention but I thought it was going to continue with that pattern and it came as a very welcome and pleasant surprise when it didn't
When I saw it live I was thinking that shot that Jai landed that broke Breidis nose I was like **** me that would've hurt but yeah Breidis was probably in a lot of pain but not rocked or wobbled and wasn't deterred in the slightest. A seriously old school tough SOB.
