It was a good stoppage. They were always going to stop it if the eye got bad anyway so its not like it was a big shock. Would have loved for Cotto to flat out spark him though.

If the fight would have continued, Cotto would have started loading up and hooking big time. He would have destroyed Tony's eye even worse and could have potentially been punching his brain for the facial bones were fractured. This could have ended with Tony making it to the final bell standing, but for what? He could have suffered brain bleeds and eventually succumb to the injuries later. As much as Tony says he would die in the ring, letting it go on would bring that close to happening, and the NYSAC wouldn't allow that.

The stoppage was justified and Margarito wasn't on his way to mounting a late round stoppage, IMO.

Still, I wish they allowed him to continue so Cotto could have won without the burden of this controversy, though, IMO, it carries little merit.

I think it was stopped pre-maturely, but it was not a BAD STOPPAGE. Margo, of course he could have continued; but Cotto had won almost
every round, (if not all). Margo's only chance was a knockout. And in 3 rounds that remained, there was a very slim chance of that. Cotto still had plenty left in the tank. If the fight had been closer, than I think a case could be made. Again, this was a repeat of Pac vs Margo. Only difference, the fight was stopped.

i don't get these people who are saying that the 9yh was his best round and he was on his way back into the fight.

he got his ass kicked in the 8th and 9th and was getting tagged constantly. the only rounds where he had any luck (and i still gave them to cotto) were 4 and 5 (or was it 5 and 6).

The ref would have had to stop it if it continued. Margarito is a brave ****ing dude and needed saving from himself.

Good stoppage....Someone need to look out for the benefit of the boxer...because Garcia sure as well wasnt going to. He let Margarito continue against Pac and the same thing was about to take place with Cotto.
