You're right, I watched it again, it was a legal blow that opened the cut and wasn't unfair. I must have confused with another fight. 7 blows were noticed by the referee, there were more than 7 low blows in 12 rounds, some went unnoticed as Lucas tends to not kneel after low blows and just keeps on fighting. One could argue that is unprofessional, you should take every opportunity to get a point deducted from your opponent if he's bending the rules, but I guess boxers with an oldschool set of mind like Lucas do not like to show a sign of weakness on the ring even with low blows. Anyhow, it's no excuse for a loss but still refs should be more careful about low blows whether the fighter on the receiving end of them is willing to shove it on ref's face or not.
I've always been trained that if someone hits you low you have to hit him back low. It's the only way to even the fight out.
Exactly, the only reason you wouldn't say something is if you were using your own dirty tactics like Lucas was (pushing the head down, hitting behind the head, holding and hitting etc.) and you did not want the ref to stop that. In other words, you thought your dirty tactics were more useful to you then his were to him. Lucas made his decision, stuck with his guns, that's why he never said much about it.
From Garcias point of view there is no reason to have a rematch. Risk getting caught by a heavy handed guy he soundly beat? Not likely. Especially when hes in the Mayweather/Pac sweepstakes for a huge payday
soundly beat ? fight was razor close mathysse landed the more solid cleaner punches imo at best you could say 7-5 to garcia even with the points deductions and bs knockdown. far from soundly beat
