Opinions..Could Harry Greb have actually beaten Jack Dempsey?

Here's a Klompton post where he lays out the case for Greb in a longer fight:

I'm not completely convinced that the size difference between them truly favors Dempsey as much as people think it would. Dempsey didn't face many shorter fighters during his heavyweight run, and the one guy he did was able to trouble him greatly-albeit in 4 round contests. In contrast, Greb faced multiple guys who were 6'0" or taller, and did quite well against them.

Dempsey's best shot seems to try and catch Greb cold and finish him early. If he doesn't...it could turn into a frustrating evening for him.

Would saying Tyson KO1 Spinks was trolling?

Spinks had never been floored. Spinks beat Hall of Famers. Spinks beat a better heavyweight (Holmes) and stopped a bigger stronger heavyweight (Cooney) than Greb ever did. Spinks won the world light heavyweight and heavyweight titles, Greb didn't.

Yet, we got Tyson KO1 Spinks.

No different.

Standing in a glove factory? Is that intimidating in any way?

 

Yeah, we read the account. Greb didn't rip into him any more than Big Bill Tate ripped into him. Greb was so rough, Dempsey sparred with someone before Greb got in the ring and after Greb got out.

Name (or better yet link to) one sparring session on film where Dempsey knocked a guy out.

Because I posted one earlier in this thread where Dempsey appears to miss badly and got outworked, too.

Name one where it's confirmed he knocked out his sparring partner in preparation for a fight ... other than a reporter who had never boxed before.

State something real that you've actually seen ... and stop regurgitating myths from an era known primarily for hyping "sensational journalism" all out of proportion.

Please explain why the "glove factory" comment is an intimidating description. If an entire wall of boxing gloves -- all the gloves -- fell on you while you were touring the glove factory, you'd come out unscathed and probably laugh about it.

If he said sparring Greb was like being in a HAMMER factory ... that would come across as a lot more concussive, dangerous and painful, doesn't it?

If a wall of hammers fell on you at the hammer factory, you'd likely die.

If a wall of gloves fell on you at the glove factory, it sounds like the scene in a romantic comedy before the guy and the girl kiss.

Glove factory = Not intimidating.

Still waiting for someone to post all those examples of Dempsey actually knocking someone out in sparring, other than the reporter who never boxed before.

Because he never knocked out anyone in sparring in all the training tapes I've seen.

I posted a training clip earlier and Dempsey gets outworked/loses in that one, too. He didn't when he got in the ring and fought Willard in the actual fight, though.
