Hi, so I just wanted to see other people opinions on the situation I was in. I'm 14 years old and I have had one bout. I was requested to fight Somone who the coach claimed was on their first bout so I accepted. The fight was scheduled for Friday and we were told on Sunday (my first question being should I have been given more notice bearing in mind it was for their own show, surely they could ha e rung earlier to give me more time to prepare). My coach was a bit suspicious of the club so he googled the boxers name and learnt that he had already had 22 kickboxing fights and had even won a championship. We were not informed of this and had my coach not been cautious I don't think we were going to be told. We cancelled the bout immediately, my question is, was the coach in the wrong for not telling us? Should we have cancelled the fight? Thanks in advance for any responses
P.S I am new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes I may have made.

yes, they were in the wrong. AIBA rules are that anyone with any amount of combat sports competitions (KB, MT, MMA, etc) are immediately open class (10+ fights experience). I think the rule in general is a little extreme, but in your case it's exactly why it's in place. good for you for having a responsible coach looking out for ya.

I would offer to go spar with them (with your coach with you). the kickboxer may not be all that good, since it is a different game, but he definitely has way more game day experience than you which would have been a considerable factor.

Your coach did the right thing.
Biting off more than you can chew early on can ruin your confidence.

Those creeps were looking for an easy fight. Dick move on their part.
The short notice can be expected from time to time. I've been offered fights the day before. But a guy with that many fights against a first timer, that kickboxing experience should at least be known. Your coach was in the right.
