As you know I do enjoy a weekend on the East Coast for boxing, however I have to say flights to North America seem to have never been so expensive. I would be happy with seeing Lopez defend against Ramirez that night though, I think it would be a competitive scrap. Taylor didn’t perform to his normal high level against Teo in June, so Ramirez could have some success.
When you say very few I agree and genuinely think that probably less than 50 people will watch that fight live in the UK at that time.
Haney vs Prograis will bomb on PPV. Agree with the above post. We want Saturday fight nights in the UK. I struggle to stay awake watching Sunny Edwards at the best of times, never mind 4am.
Watch it the day afterwards then. To be fair if it were in the UK I’m sure everyone here would be a lot more excited. I don’t see Edwards winning anyway. I mean September 30 and October 7 are back to back male world title headliners. November 25 is a really intriguing rematch between Taylor and Cameron, and November 11 could be a huge step up for Pat McCormack. November 4 Cordina defends his world title too. Boxxer and Queensberry aren’t doing too well then considering your expectations. Let’s see if Joshua fights in December. I doubt Benn vs Eubank takes place this year. Not sure why Hearn and Frank Smith are making out that it will. Benn needs to have a runout beforehand and they should get both in the ring before announcing it at Wembley in the summer next year.
You have to judge Dazn differently because unlike TNT and Sky they do not have any premium content. No one is subscribing to TNT or Sky for Boxing, it's a B level product. Boxing on DAZN is their only dart
Enjoy mate. Might try and get over myself next year but my missus is big on the Middle East at the minute. Definitely think Ramirez can give it a good go. Taylor was fooked in June and you never know which Teo you’re gonna get.
Dubai is nice and well worth seeing, but some of the rest of the Middle East is grim. Places like Ryiadh are the exact opposite I couldn’t wait to leave when I had to fly in for work. You could see why kids get radicalised there as there is nothing to do. I think if he’s on form he will stop him, but I’m not sure a fight will even happen as the Heisman is on a Sunday night this year for some reason. Struggling a bit with boxing at the mo, not much going on. A lot of false promises.
Yeah I love Dubai. Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is next on the list - might try and time it when there’s a fight on although they seem to be concentrating on UFC and not boxing. Struggling myself with boxing too. The UK stuff is really poor IMO. Glad the Rugby World Cup is on as at least there’s a solid fixture list and you know the best are going to meet the best with no pull outs or failed drug tests. A welcome break from boxing for a few weeks.
UK boxing is awful, sad to say. I couldn’t even tell you who my favourites are to watch at the moment. Probably Yarde, but that’s stretching it. I do like Yafai, the gold medalist. You? Agree ref the Rugby WC, last night was great wasn’t it. Was not expecting that with a man down after 3 mins. Hoping we make it to the semis as I have tickets. Let’s see, tough games against Japan and Samoa upcoming.
Matchroom’s show in Mexico on Friday night will be the start of potentially 13 Matchroom shows in 14 weeks in 6 different countries. You have to admire the worth ethic of Eddie Hearn, Frank Smith and the rest of the Matchroom employees to become a global business. Look at Queensberry Promotions who haven’t managed to expand or grow for a good decade and compare it to Matchroom. The drive of Hearn is admirable considering he’s already a millionaire! The day Hearn takes a step back from boxing will be a memorable date in UK boxing and one we’ll look back on. I’d say he’s the most significant figure in the sport right now! Matchroom have already got the majority of their winter schedule done (9 shows announced with 2 more confirmed and 2 further potentially to occur). This is in stark contract to PBC and Top Rank who haven’t managed to release their schedule yet. PBC like to do it as early as possible so it’s a bit of a worry there. Most likely because they are trying to finalise David Benavidez vs Demetrius Andrade on Showtime PPV!
The day Hearn takes a step back from boxing will be a memorable date in UK boxing and one we’ll look back on. It will be the day you will it see more about the boxers than a promoter.
Yet I have been undewhelmed by the schedule so far this year and what is coming for the rest of the year. 'Unprecedented value' was the words used by Hearn and Markowski in March 2023 to reel in boxing fans. DAZN keep making huge losses and these will increase next year when many of the annual subscribers leave after being disappointed with the offering. The only question now is when Len stops subsidising the huge losses and pulls the plug.
The fella’s on a wind-up now for sure. Stop biting, and maybe he’ll disappear from the forum for the rest of the year again. Or at least 10 days this time.
