He simply looked professional in his pro debut, amazing. Rigondeaux simply toyed with his overmatched opponent and showed off his boxing prowess. I can't wait to see him in the ring again. Very entertaining fighter.
Not what I expected overall. I always praised him for his technical prowess in the amateurs but he sure didn't show any of it tonight. He threw many wide punches and never really pushed the fight. The guy he fought was an absolute punching bag but Rigondeaux was still inactive during stretches. His handspeed and timing is exactly what I expected though: amazing. The stoppage was bull****.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of him as well. To be honest I was expecting his shots to hurt Noriega more. I was very suprised that there was not a KO1. I can't knock the guy too much though and can't say that he proved an awful lot because his opponent was so out gunned. He's definitely a guy that can be moved quick and IMO the faster the better.
I think he wanted some rounds in because he has been so inactive. He could've finished him whenever he wanted.
He was just trying to put on a good show, and could have ended it at any point.... Can't wait to see him vs. some top level guys... It should go for a title SOON, he is already 28.
I really liked the trick of when a jab misses, bring your wrist up to his armpit and then pull. I'm not sure if I've seen anybody pull a cute move like that so often before. The way he positions his legs made me an instant fan. Using them to turn a knock-back into a knockdown, spoiling movement, turning aside rushes, etc. Then, when he stumbled, he made it look like the other guy purposefully tripped him. Brilliant work, but I wish he hadn't fought down to the level of his opponent & refused to finish. The stoppage was borderline: with Rigondeau refusing to finish (presumably, to put rounds in the bag), the only thing the overmatched kid could have accomplished was eating a sustained and possibly concussive beating.
Fast, good with both hands (when he actually throws both hands), but with technical flaws that at the pro level could leave him ktfo. Maybe he was just trying to put on a show, but if that was the best he could do against a guy who was practically pissing in his shorts, a top 5 fighter will teach him a lesson about professional boxing.
Yes, we should allow someone overmatched and out of his depth to take further hard punches to sate the bloodlust of a bunch of people who have never been in a ring. Great idea.
You're acting as if it was Corrales vs Castillo in there :rofl Rigondeaux wasn't even aggressively throwing punches and it's a 4 round fight! The guy's health was hardly in any risk. The stoppage was bull****. How can you even attempt to defend that stoppage? Though I bet the bum was glad the fight was stopped cause he was scared to death in there.. the guy barely threw a punch the whole fight.
Exactly. He was completely outclassed and not returning fire, nobody was served by having Rigo tee off on him for another round and a half.
