As far as a rematch goes, both men slid after this fight: Norton lost his title to Holmes in his next fight, while Young lost to Ocasio twice, ruining his proposed title fight with Holmes. Perhaps they could've met in a non-title rematch.
Or Holmes could have been the guy to take on Young and some of the established fighters. The only guy he fought with a pulse before he fought Norton was old Earnie. And Norton went the way where there was the most money. so he wasn't waiting around for anything himself. The point is, in highly contested championship bouts, what you usually get is an immediate rematch. In this case, there was not even a whisper--that's why Young fought Ossie and that's why Norton fought Larry & zero rematch.
Saw the fight live on ABC, big Young fan at the time. Thought he 'out chess matched' Kenny at the time. My buds and I were majorly pissed with the Kenny decision. Interesting that the ref doesn't score bouts in Nevada going with three judges instead. The ref (name escapes me) said he would have given Jimmy the nod. One thing I'll always give Jimmy is that he, and others that fought like him, hit hard enough to, at least, stop the big bangers in their tracks. If they couldn't the sluggers would walk right thru them. IMO Young was through after this fight by not getting the decision.
