I haven't seen the fight but the linked article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/8048620.stm suggests that Rogan might have been on the receiveing end of a bad decision. Opinions?
I was at the fight. The ref was a complete joke. Who stops a boxer on a facial injury when he is bossing the fight and on the verge of stopping his opponent. If there is no rematch made immediately then there is no justice in this world.
Thanks for that. Why do you think Rogan didn't try going for the kill if he was bossing Sexton around? I presume they didn't warn him that the fight might get stopped early?
No the ref had called the ringside doctor to inspect the damage earlier in the fight, but sexton was out on his feet when the ref decides to stop it in his favour. I have never seen anything like it in all my years of watching boxing.A complete disgrace.
OMG! Sexton is a no class *******, a true *****. He lost that fight he was walking around wobbling in is feet and ready to be knocked out, after a barrage of great shots by Rogan, Sexton put his hands down and tried to look helpless he distracted Rogan by nodded ring side, Rogan thought he'd had enough, which he DID, the ref should have stopped it, and just as Rogan stopped punching and showed mercy putting his hands down and looking to the ref to see why he wasn't stopping a destroyed Sexton, and then Sexton through some cheap shots. Then the fight was stopped due to a swallon eye, no justice. The ref should be ashamed of himself, look like an amateur, had no idea what he was doing. Sexton didn't hussle he cheated, he also tried to headbutt and rub heads to make Rogans eye worse. Low low stuff, taking advantage of Rogans good nature. Sexton looks like he wants no part of a rematch. Rogan was robbed, refs a ****. Rogan is a true warrior he took it in his stride and when the Dr. asked him how many fingers he was holding up, whilst testing his swallon eye Rogan said "10"
People are being way too hard on Sexton because of their love affair with Rogan. Rogan was getting outboxed and beaten by the quicker Sexton. The ref was and always hs been somewhat incompetant. He seemed to pull Rogan off when he had Sexton hurt but he was rabbit punching. Also, lets not forget that Rogan was close to being stopped on more than one occasion. If Rogan was the killer that people led us to believe then he just would have decked Sexton when he had him hurt. Instead, like amateur he dropped his hands and got punched. Rogan's better nature - give me a ****ing break - this is a fight for ****s sake! A rematch is apparently in the making and I pick Sexton to repeat the victory.
agree ref was poor but when a fighter stands on shaky legs with his hands by his side you take the decision out of the ref and drs hands and put him on the canvas. whilst i applaud rogans sportsmanship, sportsmanship in boxing generally is saved for after the final bell.
I made a similar thread and I think that the ref should have stopped the fight when Sexton was out on his feet because Rogan saved him from a beating in my opinion.
I'd be happy to take your money if you are willing to back that opinion up with cash. Sexton was rewarded for holding, headbutting, turning his back, hiding his head, spitting his gumshield out.
Back what up with cash???? I picked Sexton before and I'd pick him again. Sexton was also outboxing Rogan and almost had him out of there himself. You must have missed that. :good
Sexton was outboxing Rogan, however you look at it. But that doesn't change the fact that the refereeing was utterly shambolic. I've never liked Dave Parris, despite the arse-kissing he gets from all the commentators; he's way too interventionist. Nonetheless, that fight was a travesty. Sexton was out on his feet and indicated he wanted it stopped, and the referee did nothing. Sexton then decided to stab Rogan in the back while he wasn't looking, and the ref decides to take Rogan out while Sexton's on the verge of being knocked into next week? It was headbutting that caused the swelling anyway; Rogan took Sexton's full power early on and it didn't seem to inflict any lasting damage, then all of a sudden he comes out of a clinch and his eye's looking like a melon. I demand a rematch.
