Breland got some good work done but Tommy isn't going to be dropping those monster right hands in a sparring section. Breland was also always fantastic with headgear on. Plus we don't know if one of them was training for a fight and in top shape, just starting camp and in terrible shape etc... you have to know the story behind a sparring session to put it in context.
Breland was one of the best ever amateurs. 110 - 1 record and as you can see from the footage one hell of a jab. Too bad it didnt lead to a similarly great pro career.
Sparring aside, Hearns would have crushed Breland in a real fight. Tommy was significantly stronger, hit harder, and had more skill. Like Rise Above said, a great jab will get you through the amatuers, but Breland lacked the overall skill and durability to be put on a par with Hearns.
Breland looked alot more fluid then when he progressed latter as a pro.I think Breland's people tried too hard to make Breland into a "Hearns".
