Vernan beat the #1 guy. He didn't beat a lower end top 10 guy which is what Darchinyan became(he wasnt top 10 when he fought Donaire). If someone like Victor Ortiz or Lamont Peterson happen to fight and beat Manny then they would become top 10 based on that win. And Campbell aint that good.
The Montiel fight fell through because Montiel cant make 115 anymore. YOU might have no interest in him because he assraped your boy but dont speak for the rest of us.
Hey **** for brains your boy got laided out. You can give all the excuses you want but he got dominated and KO'd. Donaire is a better fighter then him in MY opinion.
Alex Sanchez, Edgar Cardenas, Roberto Leyva, Daniel Reyes, Isaac Bustos, Huga Cazares twice and Nelson Dieppa. Maybe you never heard of them all seen them fight(or seen Calderon fight for that matter) but they are all good fighters. Calderon had been ducked at 105 and couldnt get the bigger unification fights. Calderon also easily dominated every opponent he ever fought with the exception or Cazares and that with him being tiny for even the 105 pound division. P.S- Calderon UD Donaire at 112.:hi:
1. It really doesn't matter how popular Donaire is he's better then Vic. 2. How the **** do you know Montiel would have made the weight??? Do you blow him and he tells you these things as you swallow?? 3. Donaire has had serious managment issues and could get a fight period. And what the **** does Arce have to do with anything?? OK you won Darchinyan is more popular then Donaire but Gatti is and was more popular then Mayweather but that didn't mean **** when they fought now did it??
If a rematch happens then we'll see whos career is heading where but that wont happen because Gary SHaw already knows what will happen to Vic.
1) Is it the man's fault he has no popular competition in his weight class? After all thats what p4p really means, popularity for popularity. 2) K.o power does not really have alot to do with it. 3) P4p in its essence means skill level and technique. Hence why most P4p rated fighters tend to be of a certain type of fighter, i.e not a slugger/brawler. You can not seriously argue Some one like Hatton has more skill than Calderon 4) FACT, the lower weight divisions are ignored and discriminated against. 5) I've seen alot of people ignore fighters like Rafeal Marquez.......a defeat does not make you a bad fighter at all. In fact a defeat can enhance a fighters reputation sometimes. This is what is wrong with the p4p lists, a defeat automatically takes you out and it is no longer mythical with fight fans manopolising the rankings by having a numerous fighters from the same weight class in there lists..... making it very real.
atsch Sandman, your analysis of boxing is extremely flawed. seriously, your whats the problem with boxing these days. How can you discrimintae on lower weights? You can't hate on a man who is 5ft tall and posseses the skill level Calderon does. And its Nonito. Too much emphasis on his resume, how about you lok at his skills and technique. Oh i forgot your only interested if it p4p...popularity for popularity.
:good most sensible thing i have read on this forum. P4P used to mean something.......today its just a pointless ranking system which is no longer mythical and very much real.
1) If your a fan of boxing your a fan regardless of weight. I see your point though, i have never really ever taken to the heavyweight/Cruiser weight division. However, i do watch it and have sound knowledge of that division. 2) Boxing is not about knocking someone senseless, i would rather watch a beautiful technical fight as opposed to a early k.o or slugfest. Sven Ottke would never make it because of his reputation NOT his boxing ability. Calderon on the other hand is no joke and deserves recognition. 3) I used Hatton as a example and in comparision (p4p in the truest sense) to Calderon's skill level. You do not have to justify why you put him in there (he is popular afterall). 4) You should broaden your horizons as a boxing fan and not continue to discriminate or ignore certain weight classes or as you say 'fighters with no power'. Boxing is not about k.o power alone. 5) I do not believe in p4p lists and have not made one in years, but if i was to i would have a fighter like Rafa Marquez right up there, despite of his losses. To not have him up there based on his two recent losses would be a weak way of analysing a boxers greatness.
