No. No, and No. Would Peter have been beaten pillar to post for another three rounds without open scoring? Yes. Both he and his corner knew he was being destroyed. But open scoring sucks, it's true, regardless of whether it affected the outcome of this fight directly.
This fight could not of possibly been any easier to judge- 8 wide, easy rounds to 0. Do you really need open scoring to know what was happening in that fight? Come on
Rounds 5-8 were an exact replay of rounds 1-4, Peter getting beaten down and taking power shots with his face. What the hell else was he gonna do? Fight harder not knowing he was horribly losing, which was apparent to everyone in his corner anyways. There was not a single round in that fight that you could give to Peter. He knew it too.
I think if Peter hadn't have quit, he may very well have been irrevocably hurt. He was taking a lot of punishment, and by the end of the eighth round, just had nothing left. He was a walking target by that point, and was open to just about anything Vitali threw at him. His left hooks were landing with impunity, and his straight and overhand rights were landing with greater frequency every round, it seemed. Peter made the right decision when he told his corner to stop the fight. He looked and sounded exhausted and beaten.
Fighters like Peter should be fined for quiting on their stool like that. He wasn't seriously hurt, he just quit. He robbed the fans of their hard earned cash.
Klitschko vs. Williams was something like 296 to 44 so I'm curious to see the comparison. Same amount of rounds too.
Easy to be tough with another man's courage huh? You think getting hit by Vitali Klitschko every few seconds is fun? His corner asked him if he wanted to continue for a reason. They saw what was happening in there.
