Yey but Mark was overdue when he finally got his title shot he was beating up some real tough Mexican flys before that... And still went on to make 7 title defenses at fly and 3 at JB. Resume maybe not as good as others but HTH id put my money on him in a fantasy tournament. You also forgot he had some big time power to go along with his great skills and speed.

I'm well versed in them Anarci.Just a difference of opinion, The Tapia fight said more about Johnny's often inconsistent ring generalship than it did Johnson imo.He was ok, one of Too sharp's best wins but short of being genuinely good imo.Tejedor, c'mon man he was an average fighter at best.

You forgot Raul Juarez, who lost a very close fight to Arbachakov, you could use that to pump Johnson up too. That doesn't make him good in my eyes though, Juarez was limited and Arbachakov was starting to slide and looked the worst i've ever seen him(including his last fight loss).

Jimenez was the best, a good fighter about on par with Kittikassem(who was not at all a great Flyweight).I'd like to have seen Johnson fight him more than once, to get an idea if it was simply a learning fight for him or more of an indicator his talent was being overblown against lesser fighters.

    Very nice post, thanks.

For some reason I thought you would have had Ohba a little lower than this. I know he pops up in top 10's from time to time but I always get that overated feel where he is concerned in terms of his greatness however good he was for obvious reasons.

The other one that caught my eye was Gonzalez. I agree that he was in more title wins than might be expected and yeah, he was out-classed or close to it here and there, but I'm the opposite of you, I kind of admire his longevity...

You think Johnson doesn't belong in this crowd, or it's fair?

    All these guys top 20?

I thought Tejedor was good in his prime (which is when Johnson fought him). Do you remember Tejedor giving a prime Danny Romero all he wanted in taking him the distance? Wasnt Jiminez fight with a prime Arbachakov controversial ? Also the fight with Jiminez made Johnson a better fighter Imo, he was still coming up when he fought Jiminez..... One other thing you didnt mention who Johnsons supposedly tough fights were with like you said in the other post. Only one i recall is Jiminez. Lacierva gave him a good fight but Johnson was already on the decline and fighting at a heavier weight, his days at 112 were long gone.

    Jimenez Kittikasem was very close.

It was Raul Juarez that gave Arbachakov a tough fight.Johnson beat him much easier not long after.

Juarez actually turned his back and refused to continue after a legit bodyshot from Arbachakov though and should have been stopped for it in that fight. If i remember correctly he was able to pass it off as a lowblow.

In the first two fights ( I aint seen) Torres looks by far the better fighter.

I'm sorry Chinoi to me just looks terrible on film, and I find it hard to rate him because of it.

Ohba probably is overrated in certain quarters, but i'm not exposed to the ramblings of enough japanese boxing fans to notice much. It's not like Sanchez where he gets stuffed down your throat a bit at times.

I like his mental toughness allied to excellent technical skills. He's a fighter you could rely on to give his all...though that may have changed had his career continued, mind you.

I'm not really a lists poster anyway, so i wouldn't take any of those placings as set in stone. You could justify almost any order with this group.

Johnson belongs, but i think anarci overestimates him saying he's the best Fly ever head to head.We didn't find enough out about him to say stuff like that imo and it's not like he's the only talented fighter among a bunch of unskilled triers.

I thought he looked good against Burruni but if it wasn't for the cuts McGowan outclassed him.
