    Hey everyone,

Wondering if any of you have done this already?

I'm a member of a charity group and I put on a successful 5K last summer where we gave the money away to an orphanage.

The group has approached me about putting on more events, and I thought about a boxing tournament.

The goal of the tourney would be to generate enough cash to initially open a gym, preferably aligned somehow with PAL or USA Boxing. Any information anyone has on this would be tremendously helpful.

I'm a member of USA Boxing as a coach now, so I can get a license/insurance through them.

Also, one of my sparring partners is a Doctor, and I think we can get him onsite (in addition to an ambulance) which I know is part of the criteria of having an event through USA Boxing.

Some thoughts I had initially are:

    1. Have the event recurring each year.

    2. Have sanctioned Amateur bouts all day, possibly all weekend depending on the number of entrants.

    3. Approach local boxing supporters and fighters about supporting the event. Aaron Pryor Sr. and Jr. are locals and friends of my last coach. Buddy LaRosa, Richard Christmas, Tony Tubbs, Ricardo Williamson, Adrien Broner, Dante Craig... all locals I may be able to talk to.

    4. Approach local colleges, military bases, Police & Firefighters about having bouts. I know several local coaches for those groups.

    5. Approach local gyms about bringing in teams.

    6. Approach the local University Athletics Dept. about a venue.

    7. Line up awards for winners.

    8. Contact local news about the event. I have contacts in those places.

    9. Use money from event to open a nice, clean facility that can be funded by dues (for adults, none for kids), ongoing events and affiliations with groups like USA Boxing and PAL.

    10. ????????????

    Ideas, thoughts?
