Maradiaga has also campaigned mostly in the fly range, fought at super bantam just last year...and came up from most recently lightweight for a scheduled welter contest here, only for Morello to miss weight by 3lbs.

So, yeah, I'm rooting pretty hard against the favorite here.

Bwahaha... so, Maradiaga scored a KD in R3! How glorious.

It was barely a KD, mind you, and not very clean (a rise-up left hook as Morello was backing away from the pocket, glancing and mostly the back of El Monarca's fist connecting with the side of his neck...but he went down)

 

Morello bullied his way through rounds four and five, though, with no more humiliating slip-ups.

Better stuff from Morello in the sixth and seventh...calmer, thinking about his combos before throwing, and working the body more.

Courageous effort by Maradiaga, turning southpaw at times and charging in behind a triple right up-jab, but he is mostly hopping around playing defense as the larger Morello clobbers him with roundhouses on the kidneys or back of the head.

 

Ah - was on a train on my way home from work so had the commentary turned down and missed that. Well, in 99% of cases I go along with the referee's decree but on this one I'm sticking to my guns and crediting El Monarca with a 10-8 for that legit (if butt-ugly) KD.

 

10-9 Morello, 78-73 Morello - honestly even less impressive than Grandelli was. They need to find a higher class of dmestic rabble to pad out poor Turchi's undercards.

 

UD for Morello...who's disappointed he didn't get to face originally scheduled opponent Andrea Scarpa??
