Quote: I was ready to keep going, but when the ref said no, I said, 'All right, I'm not going to fight,' " Ortiz said. "If I was going to sit here and say I'm not hurt, I'm lying. But as far as me going in there and giving it more, I'm up for it." http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...,4683062.story Just read this on the LA Times Sports section. Seems opposite of what he said yesterday.
No way. When his corner told him that they were going to stop it between rounds he didn't say a word and then he nodded his head no, turned his back and walked away from the ref. He was quitting he just knows that admitting to that will drastically reduce his marketability
Maybe he's been advised to say this in an attempt at damage limitation. It's often unfair, but the "quitter" label tends to stick. So it could be the GBP PR team behind this.
Hes a *****. And yes im saying this from behind a keyboard because i wasnt ringside to yell it his way as he was giggling and giving Max that disgraceful interview....
Im sure GBP got to him to get him to calm down and revise he words. Im sure he will be back. He just fell apart mentally after the beat down. He didnt handle it well...**** he's only 22.
He was clearly in denial, he was beaten up and down, bested in a fight, and for a boxer, that is hard to take. He probably went backstage and broke into tears, like a true champion would (no joke)
His pride is hurt. He's back tracking. He quit but he quit based on KNOWING he was not in a postition to win the fight...not with the gameplan and opponent he was in there with. At 22 there was no need to continue taking that kind of punishment. He can come back. He has great potential but needs to get the right corner. He banged with a banger...hooked with a hooker (even though his hook was technically better). He needed to set his offense up, use the ring, Jab and take his time. He was FAAAAAAR to excited in there and Stewart said it best..."Anyone can get KO'd with the way they are fighting." Vic was just the one who faught the other guys kind of fight. Like Cotto...Vic quit based on what was happening in the fight and knowing there wasn't anything he could do to turn it around. I don't fault him b/c he did try and got up from being KD'd and hurt. He showed heart, a decent chin and balls. But his comments are contradictory from what he said last night that is for sure.
