Having recently sat down and watched his fight with Ray Minus, it got me thinking how he would have fared had he moved up to 122lbs a lot sooner than he did, and fought the likes of Zaragoza, Vasquez, and Mckinney. I tend to think he holds his own, but the more specific question I'd like to ask is, with the exception of Wilfredo Gomez, what 122lbs in history would you have thought had a decent chance of stopping Orlando? I've watched his fight with Junior Jones a few times, and he took some pretty hefty blows in that fight, and this all from a fighter who stopped Marco and almost had Mckinney out of there early. Fair to say, Orlando had a decent beard on him...don't think I've seen him genuinely hurt, myself.

What Super Bantamweight was capable of knocking out Orlando Canizales...besides Gomez?

    Bump.

Perhaps Bantamweights moving up have the best chance....Olivares...Zarate...Marquez?

Is that the first time you've seen the Minus fight? What do you think?

Yeah, and I was impressed. He wasn't able to deliver and execute as many combination's as I'm used to seeing, but Ray looked like a slippery 'fella, an awkward customer indeed. Seemed to always be catching up so he wasn't able to plant his feet and let loose. Orlando seemed to have everything in control with his jab and straight right hand, though. It was weird seeing him miss so much, never seen him throw as many shots as he did without hitting the target before...especially the lead left hook. I give the credit to Minus, he tried to make things difficult for Canizales in there...

Stopping him? I really don't know, i've never seen him coming close to being stopped. I don't even think Morales would, but it's a difficult question really. Any thoughts on how a fight with Fenech would go?

Maybe his best performance. Certainly some of his best stuff.

I'm not sure...I'll have to sit down and watch it again.

Perhaps McGrain could intervene here as I have little to no knowledge on Fenech.

    I don't much like a swarmer's chance versus a technically gifted puncher ;)

You see Fenech as cannon fodder for a guy like Canizales, who can pick his target and deliver 3's and 4's with frightening accuracy?

Hahaha, nice. Fenech was so strong though, it would be interesting, but i see your sentiment for sure.

I wouldn't use that term, but yeah I think you're basically right, he is going to get hit a lot. That won't stop him winning rounds early doors and maybe even a bit later, but no matter how brave and tough you are a technically good well-balance accurate fighter who can hit hard at the weight is going to tell on you.

He's so strong though, i think it makes it interesting, i know Azumah said he was sick, but Fenech had him all up on the ropes first time round, and smothered him. Azumah fought off the ropes well though, but that was one of his specialties.

I love watching Canizales as much as everyone else. Beautiful fighter. But I don't think he was quite proven at the highest levels and I tend to think Fenech, at his best, would be a bit too much for him. Fenech reminds me of Duran (without the superior defensive skills) in that he could close the gap so quickly that it limited the opportunities to catch him with really good long to mid range shots.

I thought he beat Vasquez fairly clearly, and Vasquez is a pretty good SBW.
