2013- It was Rigo over Donaire (I think this is unanimous) [S tier win]

Followed VERY VERY closely by Danny over Lucas Matthysse [S tier win]

Then the A-A+ tier wins include

    Mayweather over Canelo

    Maidana over broner

    Soto Karass over Berto?

    Stevenson over Dawson?

Anyways, 2014 is close to 1/3rd of the way finished and there is no doubt that Salido over Lomachenko ranks at #1 as the best win of 2014 so far

    Facts about the fight

Lomachekno is a fighter with a 400-1 amateur record.

Salido is a 17-18 year vet with a very respectable record of 40-12-2 by the time he fought Lomachenko. He was also coming off a huge TKO win over Cruz.

LOMACHENKO was a 5-1 FAVOURITE over the seasoned vet. :think

LOMACHENKO was built up as the greatest amateur fighter ever whose road to the title seemed to be unstoppable.

LOMACHENKO was fighting for the title in his 2nd fight.

    And then it ended

    Salido SD12 Lomachenko

    Result: Lomachenko 1-1 pro ranks

    400-1 Amateurs.

    :deal

So, is this the best win of 2014?

Quoting myself from the thread on "March 2014 Fighter of the Month:"

People who never rated Lomachenko's 1-0 credentials wouldn't find Salido's feat worthy of making this list.

So I wouldn't include him in the top 5 or so fighters of the month at all.

HOWEVER... If you were one of the many idiots on here (the majority of you clowns) who claimed he was the GOAT, a sure fire future HOF'er, one of the best P4P today, etc. then you better not be a hypocrite and you need to start calling Salido "The GOAT Killer" and make him your Fighter of the Whole Damn Year.

But do you believe it is a great win?

Lomachenko was by far and away the favourite in this fight.

Not many people gave Salido a chance at all.

I think this alone gives us the win a lot of lustre.

    Naw.
Lomachenko is a professioanl no body. He has zero rep in the Pro boxing world. Especially since he is now 1-1 as a Pro.

Saildo will get some milage from the win and no doubt get some good money follow up bouts.
LOMA is still a hype and will most likely get more media hype and another free ride or two this year.

It was justified hype to the minds of many experts it seemed.

If it wasn't, the betting parlours wouldn't have had it so wide for Lomachenko.

Lomachenko also had a very good first outing vs whatever his name was I forgot.

Just because some bookies in Vegas buy into the hype doesn't mean we should all value their opinion above our own valuing of credentials and merit.

"Betting favorite" means nothing to me. I'm knowledgeable enough and am capable of factoring in the public consensus (which most nobody else can fairly do) to be able to properly value each major win in boxing. The difference here is that folks were literally doing the hipster thing and jumping blindly on a bandwagon of a novice fighter.

It's not a bad win. But Lomachenko was never a top 10 ranked opponent. So Alvarez TKO10 Angulo > Salido SD12 Lomachenko.

If he goes on to do great things, then obviously it will look great in retrospect.

But if Loma retired right now and never fought again, the win over him holds very little significance. Like, Rogers Mtagwa significant or lesser...

But the hype was there for a reason, for his massive accomplishments in the am's.

I don't truly believe that more than 5% of the people on here believed that Lomachenko would lose this bout.

But yes I do agree. This win will either grow to be an ATG level win or it can completely become irrelevant depending on what Lomachenko does in his future bouts.

    I just believe that you're undermining a lot of Lomachenko's non-pro accomplishments.

So called experts also predicted Foreman would beat Ali.
They are often wrong, as again shown by Lomachenko's lose.

If Naoya Inoue defeats Adrian Hernandez in a few days, he takes the best win category and it ain't even close.

Unfortunately, while I rate Lomachenko highly in terms of ability, fact remains that he's no experience as a pro and no credentials apart from beating one contender prior to the fight with Salido, also his win had some controversies with him coming overweight et cetera.

Hell, if naoya's brother beats Sakhareen in his second fight, that's gotta be a contender, too.

    For sure.

Then if either Japanese beats Gonzalez later in the year.
