He has very powerful right cross/hook that is throw very wide. Generally those kind of punches don't land often, how does he do it? He hardly ever throws a straight punch which should benefit his wide punches.
he's aggressive. so while he bores into you with his head, which is a cause for concern, it leaves u open for the big wide shots. the hooks to the body play a big part too.
Because he throws in combination often and mixes up his punches well to the head and body. It's harder to be in a position to block when you're not sure where the punch is going and how many will be coming your way so that helps disguise his looping right. And while hardly a great counterpuncher, he does also tries to time the punch while his opponent is punching often if he thinks he can walk through his opponent's firepower.
Because is willing to trade. He is willing to eat what's coming in order to land some of his loopy punches. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Look at the Garcia fight. Dude walked thru hell, got sat down a bunch of times, and still kept on coming. Even started to push Garcia when the fight got stopped.
The above two answers are good responses. He is willing to trade at mid-short range and throws hooks/uppercuts at strange angles. These are the punches that you don't see when they hit you.
Agreed. Which is why he is exciting to watch and why I try not to miss any of his fights. It worked for him vs JuanMa 2x, but he took a beating himself. He just has a sturdier beard than JuanMa. Vs Mikey, he got battered something awful, but just kept coming. But eventually his shots started to tell. It's not how you'd draw it up, but it's fun to watch.
If you've ever boxed or sparred you should know that sometimes straight punches can be much more predictable and easier to block, slip or dodge than a wide loopy punch that will go around your guard.
he sets up his punches well with feints. He'll also dip low and throw his right hand wide at the same time keeping him safe from punches
He's a hell of a conditioned fighter, and that means he can add more pep to his step with each and every punch...not to mention his timing throws off a lot of fighters....sort of like margarito.... ya they're slow sure they're not super talented but their toughness, chin and timing can definitely put them up there with the best of them....
A lot of good responses guys. I don't think I've every heard a boxing commentator saying someone positive about wide punches. They always say the straight punch reach the target first in an exchange or a boxer is leaving himself wide open because the wide punch took so long to throw.
no...lomachenko is great at the one thing that really troubles salido....MOVEMENT !!! even sissy lala boy cruz was havin success while on the backfoot.....
