Arroyo is throwing jabs and hooks on the back foot, catching Maldonado diving in face-first. Maldonado is a southpaw again. Maldonado ducks a wide left hook and surfaces up in Arroyo's chest, hacking at him with a few shots but missing as Arroyo smoothly steps back and counters with jabs. Clinch. Maldonado edges his way in, looking to land a left uppercut. Arroyo keeps leading him on, backing up to the ropes and throwing counter left hooks. Nice jab-cross-jab combo by Arroyo, working around a Maldonado right jab. Clinch. Leaping left hook by Arroyo makes Maldonado back straight up. Left and right uppercut to the body by Arroyo. Right and left uppercut to the body in response by Maldonado. BIG right hand to the face by Arroyo, snapped Maldonado's head back. Maldonado paws with his right jab. Maldonado's cheek is gushing cherry colored ooze.

Oh yeah - I totally forgot about Arroyo's cut, ever since Maldonado's appeared. :yep

A total non-factor. His cutman has done amazing work. (unlike Maldonado's - although it's probably through no fault of their own...that sucker is BAD)

 

Round 8

Arroyo backs up and greets Maldonado with left hooks to the ear and the letter shaved in the side of his head. Maldonado jumps in on him and they push against each other, forearms to forearms. Maldonado is orthodox, throwing straight right hands coming forward. Now some left hooks springing up from bent knee by Maldonado, missing. Now some wide looping rigjhts, missing. Arroyo backs lazily up to the ropes and covers up as Maldonado throws some body shots. Arroyo steps out to the center of the ring. Left jabs to the body by Maldonado, and some wild uppercuts standing up. Arroyo is getting clipped here and there but evading most everything. Left upper-hook to the liver by Arroyo.

Farhood is starting to criticize Arroyo for not looking to impress the crowd and close the show having been privileged with a national TV appearance.

The audience is booing a little ever so slightly, and getting restless.

Maldonado keeps swinging away from outside, missing. Arroyo backs up to the ropes, lands quick short right hands to the face to get free and avoid being trapped, and keeps moving. Left hooks to the body by Arroyo. Maldonado has turned southpaw again. Maldonado crouches in and tries to tomahawk with the right jab. Maldonado goes for the body. Arroyo turns into him and holds. Arroyo works a triple left hook to the body. Uppercut by Maldonado, grazing Arroyo's chin. Maldonado keeps bending down low, targeting the body but missing or landing very lightly as Arroyo backs up.

According to Farhood, Maldonado said that Donaire hits harder than Darchinyan. :think

Round 10

Arroyo backs up as Maldonado lunges wide and loose, missing. Arroyo is keeping his guard up, not wanting to get kayoed in the last round. Very cute boxing by Arroyo now, not taking any chances. Right hand and left hook by Arroyo while backing up. Maldonado keeps diving in low and throwing wide punches all over the place. It's hard to tell whether Maldonado is even aiming for the head or body - his arms are just shooting out haphazardly. Arroyo keeps pawing his right eye with his glove. Three, four, five counter left hooks by Arroyo catch Maldonado on the face as he's slinging at the body! Clinch. Arroyo pushes out. Arroyo slips some left jabs backing up and rolling his shoulder. Arroyo dances away, circles right. Arroyo waits for Maldonado on the outside, pouncing up with a flurry to the head as he comes forward.
