Are there any examples of good/great Orthodox boxers with right hooks? Would you generally recommend that orthodox fighters throw right hooks? or is it too risky?
Depends on what you consider to be a hook. If by "right hook" you mean a wide punch thrown outside of the body, like a punch in a movie, doubt any good fighter threw anything like that. If you mean "right hook" being a short right hand thrown across the body with a bent arm, and elbow up, sure, and it's not a particularly risky punch to throw. A wide right hand like John Wayne throws in an old western would be extremely risky and it wouldn't land on any decent fighter. About the only way a punch like that could land is if the opponent closes his eyes and freezes in place, or if the opponent is already badly hurt, wobbly, and not alert. I've heard some people call bent arm punches with the right hand (from orthodox fighters), hooks, but to me, they are still right hands since the mechanics of throwing the punch (pushing off the right foot, turning the hips, body and shoulders, bringing the punch across the body, and transferring the weight to the left foot) are the same, the only difference is the angle of the arm.
I think Inoue, Tyson, Holyfield and Beterbeiv should definitely be in the discussion, maybe with Mancini on a lower level.
Chan Hee Park. And of course, Mike Tyson. A right hook is a very good punch to cross over a lead, and is even better crossed underneath it after, or even whilst, slipping it. Napoles used to do it extremely well, then follow with the left hook.
