Let’s put the stipulation that Marvin has to fight right-handed and make this for 12 rounds. Who do you see winning? Let’s make it the RJJ of the Thomas Tate fight, just before Roy Jr moved up to beat James Toney.
Telling Marvin Hagler that he can’t switch stances …is like telling Mike Tyson that he can’t throw body shots
But the funny thing is…if Hagler had to fight 12 rounds as a southpaw…he’d probably feel just as handicapped
It's hard enough to imagine these cross-generation fights as it is, let alone throwing in handicaps! Lol.
Why are we handicapping Hagler ? It's like taking away prime Ali's jab and putting him in with Tyson. Or placing Whitaker in with Chavez, but restricting him from using his foot speed and defense.
1. Why not? Lighten up and have some fun. 2. He did it himself in the early rounds of the Leonard fight so we have some evidence of what Hagler was as a strictly orthodox fighter so there’s a basis upon which to speculate.
Ok, I'll go along then. Jones would give Hagler hell without the" restrictions ", with the restrictions Jones Jr. Probably wins easily. The only caveat is if Hagler goes for broke early as he did with Hearns and what he should've done with Leonard. Even if he doesn't get the early ko he would do enough damage to make Jones Jr. Defensive minded. Go on for the dec.
