Are all you fools on this forum going to pay his medical bills when he retires?

If a guy doesnt want to continue cos his jaw is broken he's a smart person.

Boxing is a sport, NOT a ****ing fight to the death.

Otiz did right, people should lay the **** off the guy - he's not a quitter he's just not prepared to end up some punch drunk, penniless an ex pug like most of the "Mexican Warriors" are. they gave their health to entertain fickle boxing fans.

Lets have a poll and see where this goes...

Good for you Ortiz - all the best with the recovery.

I agree with you 100%. I've never boxed a day in my life, but what he did was smart.

Hes got a broken jaw and fractured sternum, give ortiz a break!

headbutts and bravado aside, let **** lie

Ergh, you are no fans of boxing if you support quiting, maybe you should take up ice skating.

I think it proves he hasnt got as much Pride or a fighters mentality but that isnt a bad thing. I was one of the few people defending the Maidana fight as were not in there taking the punches. Worst damage ive had to deal with was when i got sucker punched in a street fight and nearly lost a tooth, thats nothing compared to a broken jaw

All in all it was a great fight, and all credit going to Lopez for coming to fight rather than just surviving

Besides your hands your jaw is essentially the second most important part in the ring.
There is no way Vic could have taken not even ONE more hook on that chin.

****en hurts just thinking about it.
If you want to call Vic a quitter be my guest, but you show lack of character.

Tell you what, Ill break your jaw and see if you still want to keep fighting. If you were in Ortiz's place that night you would have quit after being hit once

Until you can say you can fight on with a broken jaw your in no position to call Ortiz a quitter

There was no need for him to continue, he was already mentally broken at that point anyways. His corner should have helped him out a little and asked the DR to look at his jaw, likely the Doc would have stopped the fight saving Ortiz the blitz of bull****. Lopez was breaking him down and wasn't going to quit anyways. GBP didn't do Ortiz any favors for setting him up with a huge fight based on his performance in this one, he's not mentally tough enough for that, and I think that hurt him some here. Either way Lopez was taking control of the fight, which was very close at the time of the stoppage I felt. I'm not a fan of Ortiz at all, but I really don't have a problem with him not wanting to risk further damage, he's just a kid at 25 years old. He can still be in some big fights, and we know whatever fight he's in will be dramatic in some way.

I don't blame him for quitting, but I can't condone it either. Even if he'd backed off, boxed from range and lost a close decision he'd have won back the respect of many fans who labelled him as a quitter. Instead, the idea of him as a quitter has only grown stronger, rightly or wrongly.

Well no actually because Abraham was right to do what he did and made a lot of money from it. As for Ortiz I don't know if I could have went on as long as he did with a smashed jaw and I'm a lot tougher than the majority on here so fair play.

i'm not going to kick the guy when he's down for not wanting to continue w/ the injuries he had. my issue is w/ him flagrantly fouling his man again only to drop his hand in an attempt to hug and kiss the guy in apology. thankfully the ref was there and even said at one point "get your hands up" to both guys. hell he was still patting lopez on the ass after a clinch 30 seconds later.

dude needs to talk to someone. he's not right in the head and i'm not saying that jokingly. something is wrong with him. and broken jaw aside, you could see the life being drained out of him everytime lopez took his shots and motioned for him to bring it on before throwing bombs himself. i mean, even after the first round he was winking at him from across the ring.

he doesnt deserve any more main event spots for a while thats for sure

its not expected for the upper level guys with all the big money to quit

Ortiz seems to get more chances than others due to his promoter

    :good

And Abraham was forced to continue. Abraham was asked if he wants to continue and he said no and than his promoter and trainer forces him to continue.
