Just watched Angulo-Lara fight. What a fight. I have a lot of respect for both guys. After watching this fight I started to wonder... Why does some dickheads call V.O. a quitter after he got his jaw broken to pieces, remembering that Angulo did the same thing? I don't remember any shitty threads about Angulo having a glass heart. Both guys got cought. They did the best thing they could do. I don't think any of us would risk our career or health after getting punched like they did. Look at Margarito, wanted to be tough, where is he now? He has no job, no money, no lady. Ortiz has nothing to ashamed of. He's dumb, but I have nothing but respect for him after what he did to Berto.
Ortiz is the most exciting fighter of the last 5 years so anybody that hates on him for anything he does in the ring is impossible to please.
@janeschicken Oh, come on, he was a teenager fighting a tough mother****er. He wasn't ready for Maidana yet.
That's like calling Sugar Ray Robinson a puss-cake for not being able to handle the heat against Joey Maxim and passing out like a coward from it. After all, Maxim wasn't bothered by it...
I'm not saying I feel that he's a quitter, but there is more context to Ortiz than simply the Lopez fight. Fact of the matter is, Vic didn't go out on his shield and flat out told the world "I don't think I deserve to get beat up like this". That's the reality of why he's perceived the way he's perceived.
Funniest thing was when Ortiz tried to push his trainer to get past and fight like he wasnt the one who said he wants out, he thought we wouldnt find out
because with victor, there is a pattern and a type. he has shown courage in fights but his threshold for punishment is a bit below most of his peers. at least that is what he has shown.
Ortiz doesn't have the mentality for boxing Mayweather headbutt Maidana quit job Lopez hitting back of head when down (even after thinking about whether he should or not for a few seconds) - then got his jaw crushed (shouldn't have pissed Lopez off) He did quit against Lopez - Was it the right thing to do though? yes... Should people complain? No... unless they expect every fighter to fight to the death or continue with a broken jaw like Abraham. Ortiz would have been fcked if he let Lopez hit that jaw with any more left hooks, The doctor probably would have stopped it.
Angulo's corner should have stopped the fight...or the doctor. He had an injury that could have been serious. I can't label him a quitter because ot that.
Ortiz has a pattern of looking for a way out of a fight when it's not going well for him. I don't blame him for quitting with a broken jaw, but that was one example amongst several others. The Mayweather debacle was Ortiz looking for a way out of what was about to be an extended ass whipping. He quit against Maidana... etc...
As others have said, the difference is that Ortiz has established a pattern of quitting or mentally checking out of his fights when he's pushed. The "don't deserve" fight against Maidana. The weird allowed comeback against Peterson after manhandling Peterson early. The headbutt/overapologizing against Floyd. Lastly, the broken jaw against Lopez. The only fight against a legitimate threat where he seemed to put it all together was against Berto(and now it's fairly clear how overrated that was as a win). Angulo has lost most of his step up fights, but the Lara fight is the only real quit job on there, and Angulo is 31 now while Ortiz is still a relatively young man in the game,
