https://fightnews.com/vergil-ortiz-jr-pulls-out-of-stanionis-fight/145786 "In preparation for his upcoming fight on April 29 in Arlington, Texas, Vergil Ortiz, Jr. has had to pull out of his main event versus Eimantas Stanionis for the WBA regular welterweight world championship due to a flare-up of rhabdomyolysis. Ortiz was originally diagnosed with the condition in March 2022. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to the ring later this year."
Well rhabdo causes kidney damage which is irreversible. More importantly if he's having issues again its prolly r/t cutting weight and having too much muscle mass/too little water mass. And all that is strange considering the right is weeks away so IDK
If he's damaging his health from cutting weight, he really need to move up. I wonder what kind of medical people are advising him after the first time this happened.
Ah **** I was so hyped up for this matchup. The fight is one month away and Ortiz is already receiving the consequences of the weight cut. This could be a serious problem, he might even struggle to make 154.
Be interesting to see how he does at 154. It feels like the size gap between 147 and 154 is huge. Former 154 pounders like Andrade, Jermall, and even current 154 pounders like Jermell and Fundora just seem like they're a totally different weight class than the 147 pounders.
I feel like 147 is cursed right now. Despite the deep talent pool, nothing is happening in the division. There are no big fights lined up.
