He fought with a lot of energy and clearly had the fight in hand, it was very competitive and Lopez was catching him here and there with hard shots especially in the later rounds but overall victor was putting it on him in a really demanding fight.

Barring the broken jaw I though Vic was gonna stop him down the stretch. His big mistake was that he should have invested more to the body throughout the fight. Obviously he's not the smartest guy out there, naturally gifted, very athletic and but not too intelligent. (overly emotional)

Overall I thought vic looked pretty strong and sharp and I think your a ****ing ****** for holding it against him for retiring with a broken jaw. Of course I would of liked to see him continue for the intrigue as well, but let's be realistic you can't expect someone to do that. Its simply above and beyond the call of duty for a fighter. The guys who had done it are exceptional.

Unless you've been punched in the face by a professional fighter for 9 minutes with a broken jaw you really have no right to criticize him in this situation.

You also have to give him credit for always being in exciting fights, win, lose, draw, or quit its exciting. He seemed gutted after the fight knowing the opportunity that he had just lost coupled with the fact that he must have been in tremendous pain. Had to have been an awful awful feeling. Guy has **** for luck in and out of the ring.

    thoughts?

    Victor Ortiz won the event.

Judges had him up on all 3 score cards

He landed more power punches and jabs.

He was on his way to winning the fight when the cheater **** Lopez cut open his jaw with an illegal punch.

It should have been a TD Win for Ortiz.

    Final Score Cards
    Judge 1 87-84
    Judge 2 87-84
    Judge 3 87-84

    Lopez's Mom 87-84

    Event Winner Victor Ortiz

    deal with it

    An illegal punch?

    Say what?

You must be confusing Lopez with Ortiz.
Ortiz, who should have been disqualified for blatantly hitting behind that head.

Ortiz needs to stick to brawlin like the Berto fight he seemed mentally prepared for a war then, once he starts runnin away he loses confidence and his opponent will gain confidence, happened in the Peterson fight aswell

I thought he looked a tad on the skinny side. Showed some ring rust and/or not taking lopez seriously in the first round. That was pretty clear.

But out of all the original 140lb guys ortiz was always the most physically gifted. The kids clearly a beast.

He showed something new by landing his jab. I always thought he had a toy jab which is strange considering that his right hand is his dominant hand.

Unfortunately, he lacks the patience to box behind the jab and was too eager about using his power. He got ****ed up trying to brawl it out

i thought he was getting tagged alot because he didnt think Lopez could hurt him. Give Lopez his props, he was all balls and he wasnt taking no for an answer. Great fight, i'd like to see a rematch but i doubt it happens.

This fight was a very good fight until the 'quitting' by Ortiz.

Ortiz was winning the fight against Lopez by the end of the 9th even though Lopez threw some really good spurts, Ortiz was actually out pointing him in a few of the rounds.
All of the rounds were very close, but seeing as how judges don't score draws for rounds they had to give each round to someone, based on what I saw, I'm not surprised they gave more rounds to Ortiz.

Ortiz didn't have that extra something to go through the pain and danger for the final three rounds, which is too bad since I see him as winning.

Lopez was cracking Ortiz with those uppercuts and wide punches. Something went wrong with Ortiz preparation for the fight, I don't know what it was, maybe bad sparring partners. Lopez on the other hand came to beat the crap out of Ortiz and that's what he set out to do, he was getting out boxed by Ortiz (which shouldnt actually happen :huh) but that didn't stop him from busting Ortiz up when he got his chance.

The word from Ortiz camp is broken jaw, and something about a broken sternum?
I wouldn't be surprised with a few of those bombs Lopez was detonating inside and above Ortiz's guard.

Ortiz is missing one thing above all, drive. He didn't want it bad enough. He couldn't push through the pain barriers to finish because he didn't want it. The doctor didn't take him out, he took himself out.
