Was on the horn with Victor Ortiz manager Rolando Arrellano this morning to discuss the recently inked fight between Ortiz and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. set for September 17th on HBO PPV.

Ortiz Manager Arrellano: “Opportunity of a lifetime”

With the official announcement that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will be stepping out of a 14 month bout of inactivity to take on reigning WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz on September 17th, I caught up with Ortiz manager Rolando Arrellano this morning to discuss the fight.

“We agreed to any and all conditions,” stated an elated Arrellano over the phone. “This is Floyd's promotion, he is the man, he has earned his position. We didn't care too much about the gloves, the location, just tell us where and when to show up, it's an opportunity of a lifetime.”

Arrellano was unwilling to go too in detail about any of the specifics regarding the fight but stated that the negotiations have taken place over the past two or three weeks with Team Ortiz accepting the terms at the drop of a hat. And how could one blame Ortiz when the alternative was likely a mandatory defense against the unknown Selcuk Aydin instead?

    Damn right it is!!

Kinda sad they're cashing Ortiz out already. But whatever, good for him. He seems like a nice enough kid.

He was supposedly being cashed out against Berto. He's cashing in against Mayweather Jr. A loss will not harm Vic The Brick's future. If he loses, he's still got many years of fights in front of him. If he wins, then what. This is a no lose situation for Vic The Brick and I'm glad he's getting the opportunity.

Pac-JMM was signed on/about 5/18 which makes 3 weeks tomorrow. Floyd-Ortiz only started negotiation 2-3 weeks ago. It was clear, Floyd got his urge back when Manny was out of the way.

Eh, that IS true about the Berto fight. Dunno tho, once he gets trounced vs Mayweather, then what?

If you lose to a guy that's 41-0 or 42-0 or whatever, it's supposed to be a shock or it's not an embarrassing because your're probably not picked to win. But hell, he can rematch Berto, any of the 140's can move up. If there is a truce, he could move up for Cotto, Cintron, PW, Lara, Cinnamon. Hell, with an L, that may help him fight Manny.

When has Floyd ever done anything like that? He doesn't like 10 oz gloves. :huh

Honestly, you're a good poster but these kind of comments will be latched onto by the ignorant around here. Mayweather will be crucified as it is for whatever brand of gloves he picks.

I wonder how overpublicized Victor's "tough upbringing" will be in the buildup. From a small town in Kansas, "supported himself and his brother". I put that in quotes because former trainer Robert Garcia said that was crap and that he put a roof over Victor's head, hooked him up with a job in construction. That story is an interesting one.
