You gotta have your feet to the ground and be established before you go up against a hard power puncher like that ... all the good fighters now have atleast had a championship before stepping up against someone with a guady KO ratio.

Instead of stepping up the pyramid he leapfrogged a few levels, that is ever good for a fighter, and it only happens to protected prospects who are matched badly really. And we all know it only takes one bad match to end a hot prospects chances.

I'm reminded of the english amateur prospect Ricky Eccleston, he was an excellent amateur but when he turned pro it was quickly established he had a glass jaw and no punch. After 6 points wins he came up against very tough but very limited journeyman Jimmy Beech , who knocked him out cold in.... the third I believe. That finished his confidence and he had one more fight before retiring.

I gotta say I only really started liking ortiz after the interview. I know everyones goin on about him bitching out but I have never seen such an honest interview. To say the better man won, that he was hurt, didnt wanna go out on a stretcher etc took guts in my opinion (even if he'd have done better showing those guts before the fight was stopped). He knew full well most boxers would have played up the cut injury etc but he didnt. Fair play

Yeah but smiling and laughing and saying "Hey Max how are ya?" after losing his title is strange to say the least. No boxer should be that happy after such a loss.

So how is Ortiz and Khan different than how Hoya was brought up? Hoya seems to have made it through the development years looking pretty good. Was Hoya protected more or less than new versions of him like Ortiz and Khan?

It was weird he still had the all american smile on his face yeah. I guess the interview just capped of a fascinating fight - dont see many fights that entertaining,,and I never saw an interview like that period so I'm happy for ortiz to come again,,should be interesting.
But yeah it was strange,,almost like he was relieved he was no longer on a pedestal. Man I wish I knew what moseley said to him post fight

Does it count when you're so badly hurt you've forgotten you're actually in a fight and can't stand up in the first place?

Did he try to get up? Yes he managed to stand up from both knockdowns - although was completely out of it in with the 2nd - but he still got up and wanted to continue.

khan took bombs straight on the chin had prescot hit ortiz the same way ortiz would have got ktfo atleast khan had the heart and desire to get back up and fight unlike ortiz which is the real reason ortiz and khan cannot be compared

You another one of those "That punch would have KO'd anybody!!!!" people? If he couldn't KO Toledo or Abrile he couldn't KO Ortiz
