Very disappointing. American boxing just can't catch a break. Ortiz could have been the next breakout star. Not after that performance. Wow! I just don't know what to say.

Shameful, I had high hopes for this guy and he quits like it's nothing.

It was a tough fight, but afterwards said that he didn't want to take that kind of punishment anymore.Usually that means that he doesn't want to fight anymore.

Ortiz quit, it's a sad day for American boxing as he just didn't have a Plan B. Potential mainstream superstar cut down before his prime. The hardcore will always hold that post fight interview against him as he openly admitted he wouldn't go out on his shield.

That's definitely what I saw. I think his corner broke him in the ring in between rounds when they kept tellin' him they're gonna stop the fight (why? he was up). When he came back out it looked like he was wearin' a skirt instead of trunks and just totally clammed up and Maidana pounced on him like a ****in' lion.

First let me say I'm a big Victor Ortiz fan but I'm very disappointed with Ortiz tonight. Not only did he fight one of the dumbest fights in recent memory but the guy flat out quit. I question his heart and if he really wants to be in this sport. This was the first real test of a very young career. Maidana was a guy who got back up when he was knocked down and kept coming unlike other guys Ortiz has fought. This can go two ways for Ortiz who is still a very young fighter. One he could get discouraged and give up the sport or two he could take this as a learning experience and move on. Boxing is a very humbling sport and Vitor Ortiz was humbled tonight

Please plenty of good young American fighters out there. Jacobs, Bradley, Dawson, Ward, Dirrell, Williams, Berto, Diaz and Pavlik.

he was put down by a bodyshot.

He got up, the ref said are you ready to go, he shook his head no, the ref brought him to the doc to check his eye, the doc stopped it.

Ortiz admits in the interview he quit.
