Doing fantastic, man. Still watching everything I can but just haven't been logging in as much. And I'm glad you saw what I saw. Ortiz seemed to have a lot of fight in him, and the instant he came out after his corner basically gave up, he looked like he was ready to go.
Maidana needed and wanted the win more. Ortiz doesn't seem in love with the sport he going on as if he had a title filled career and is at end of long road.
He said he was hurt and he quit when the ref asked him. Only he knows how bad he was hurt. Either way he did give up.
Ortiz almost strikes me as a front-runner. If he can't get his guy outta there in the first 5 rounds or so he seems to get frustrated.
You're right. But on that entire list, the only guy that has a lot of charisma that could be a crossover star is probably Ward. Especially because of the gold medal pedigree. Maybe Jacobs, Dirrell and Berto. But that's a reach. Diaz has already lost twice. Pavlik is pretty much already as popular as he's going to be. And Bradley, Dawson and Williams sadly could all go 100-0 and the American public wouldn't care.
He should have never said that he was too young to get beaten up! He probably just lost legions of fans.
The same impression I got. Ortiz was clearly ahead and instead of keeping him calm and reassuring their fighter they panicked and confused the crap out of him!
It was a great fight but Ortiz could've won it had he kept boxing from the outside. But Ortiz looked liked he was going to get taken out anyway, so maybe with the quitting he stopped further punishment from occuring. Still we all like to see fighters put out their all into what they do and risk it all for us.
The strangest thing to me is that he didn't even seem to be disheartened by the loss. He seemed almost jubilant during the post fight interview, moreso than Maidana and Maidanda ****in' won! This is odd. I'm still trying to fully digest the whole thing.
I agree with all the opinions posted. I've seen Ortiz box well, and he wasn't doing any of that tonight. He didn't do what he needed to do to adjust the shortcomings of what he was doing in the ring. He basically quit on the stool...he looked defeated from that last brutal punch he received. I think had Ortiz been smarter, had more ring maturity, he would have done what he needed to do to adjust and outbox this guy. He is more than capable of it. Another case where his mentality is weaker than his talent, skill, & physical gifts. Anyone think after some long hard thinking, he can come around? or once a quitter always a quitter?
Some of the posts on this thread are just dam right disrespectfull. The guy admited he was hurt and beaten by the better man. So what if he quit. What do you want to see the guy taken home in a body bag. Have any of you heard of Gerald McClellen. Boxing is a dangerous sport. The guy was beat and there is no shame in saying enough is enough. I would love to see some of you in a ring and get punched in the head for 6 rds. He just gave us one hell of an entertaining fight for 6 rds. Give him a break. **** me im not even a fan. You guys are unbelievable.
Exactly! I kept screaming at the TV for Ortiz to use his superior boxing skills and throw his jab. He could have had an easy nights work but instead he chose to go to war with a slugger.:-(
