Well......by definition, yes, but when you are physically beat and cannot give more youcannot do anything but you know, that was the case of Cotto. I was just saying its 2 totally different situations.

Both were physically beat and mentally beat and both quit.

Cotto went down without getting hit before he quit.

His after fight statements amounted to "Well I dont like this getting hit part, I dont know if I want to keep fighting if I am going to get hit back!"

Say what you want about Margarito but the universe knew if he got off that stool to go back in with Mosely he was getting knocked out and badly........and he told his corner to shut up and got up and took it like a man.

All these guys from LA think they can talk their spanish and the mexican fans will love them.........the mexican fans expect a little more than that!

I think Golden Boy just watched their best prospect ruin his chances of a huge future.

Im in shock this was supposed to be a easy win. I mean most guys in the tipping all picked Ortiz by stoppage.

    He is only young to.

I'd say Ortiz's was much worst than Cotto's. Cotto had no stamina left to continue fighting, completely exhausted, but Ortiz...

Yeah, such a ***** that he got up from that first KD and fought his ass off for 5 more rounds, and that wasn't a pansy quick KD, it was a hard hard punch.

Sounds like a ***** to me..

It's not that shocking when you consider that his opponent had a better than 90% KO rate.

What's more shocking is that GBP put him in against a banger in spite of the rumours that Ortiz had a questionable chin(as Kellerman alluded to)!

Yep he definitely quit and admitted he did. With all the hype for him you would expect him to at least put more effort rather than give up quickly like that.

If they didn't put him against one then they're over protecting him and if they do put him then they didn't manage him well.

Fact is, they will have to put him against one sooner or later. Tests like that have to be taken. Cotto took on Torres on short notice when no one knew anything about him but knew he had a serious KO ratio, nearly lost that one and could have quit too but eventually outlasted him.

Wasn't Ortiz on Floyd's five fight plan? After this fight I think it's safe to say Ortiz will be scratched off the list unless Ortiz comes back, but he seemed to be alluding to retirement.

That was a really fun fight. Two warriors slugging it out with bombs. Back and forth ebb and flow. I actually think Ortiz hit harder and had the better punch form. Maidana was busier and friskier, tougher inside and with the better chin. Maidana was a bit sloppy at times with his offense and defense, which could have left him vulnerable to being stopped at any moment. But he occasionally snapped off some beautiful and dangerous rights. Ortiz's right hook was really short and sharp, and quite effective. Ortiz could have won that fight had he not broken mentally. But a really gritty grueling war at times reveals what a fighter has inside, and instead of staying the course, Ortiz mentally broke. But no shame, because that was a wonderful war. But at this point in time, Ortiz does not have the maturity or internal constitutional toughness to will himself through a fight like that.

Ortiz's defensive and lack of ring generalship were shown tonight. No jab or body punching. Left his hands down. Backed up in straight lines.

Sounds like his heart isn't in boxing to me. It's smart for his future, but he doesn't have the makeup of P4P type fighter.

i'm not one to call fighters quiters or bums, check my post history, but ortiz's body language and post fight interview were quite telling.
