http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=20312&more=1 Looks like he's recovering mentally from the loss and looking forward to return as soon as possible. Good signs.
Yeah, but he's still a one dimensional come foward fighter who doesn't seem to have any idea of how to fight off the backfoot, and doesn't move his head enough to have a long career with his one paritcular dimension. He's basically a bully, but was exposed as a bully that so far does not cope well with adversity.
he'll be back. the only problem now is i don't really want to see him get beat up again knowing how he feels about it. really wish he didn't say the things he said after the fight. it's hard to believe he wasn't being honest and that isn't really the way he feels. in any case, hopefully he really can overcome the loss and he realizes that he truly does want to be a champion and he's gonna get beat up at that level regardless of how good he is.
This is exactly why i was surprised a little by the huge load of negative responses about his post-fight interview, even though it was understandable. When a guy's just coming out of a fight, and it's his first real loss and a brutal one at that, he's not thinking straight and reacting instinctively. After he's thought about it for a few days, he'll have processed his emotions and talk about it more soberly.
I really feel for the kid. We've had our fair share of "no masses" over the past five years, but most of them involved guys past their prime. Make all the Khan and Dunne comparisons you want, they didn't stand up in front of their hometown fans and basically admit that their heart pumped koolaid. I'm not giving up on Ortiz, but man has he set himself a task as far as regaining the respect of Mexican fight fans. It's going to take years of dedicated, utterly badass performances to wipe his slate clean.
The way the fight ended and how he reacted it looked like he wasn't serious anymore and many questioned his desire to continue.
Ortiz: "I am young, have things to learn and I guarantee you, I will be a world champion, MARK MY WORDS...Just watch me!" Not a huge Ortiz fan but you know I'll be tuning in to his next fight with more interest now!
I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even say those things. Oscar probably just threw out some quotes.
But then Oscar pulled him aside and told him how much money he had invested into him and he had a quick change of heart.
