Ortiz versus cotto at 147

No, he's not. Mayorga has been known to come in the ring (particularly the Mosley fight) at 170 pounds, which is nearly 10 pounds more than what Ortiz came into the ring this past weekend.

Anyway, I wouldn't be so sure Ortiz got past Mayorga, let alone Cotto.

I would pick Ortiz to knock out Cotto. But few years ago, before Margarito fight, I would pick Cotto to beat Ortiz.

footwork is better-he's not as wild as he was back then. Mayorga knew he couldn't outboxed cotto so he wanted to brawl with him. While cotto did exchange a couple of wild shots you could see he was very cautious.

He wasn't the old cotto where he would get reckless and trade punches with his opponent.

Past prime or not, Mayorga always was known for having a reliable chin, and save De La Hoya, has never been taken out without a prolonged beating. It took Shane Mosley until literally the last second of a 12 round bout to stop Mayorga...and look what Shane was able to accomplish in his next bout.

Anyway, Cotto going twelve with a bigger fighter known for durability shouldn't in any shape or form be used as a barometer for a potential match up against a smaller, less durable fighter.

 

Cotto would knock Ortiz out. Listen, Cotto has been in there with the best of the best and has only lost twice (3 times if you count the Clottey ass beating which I consider a loss). Why do people write him off now? Cotto is on a different level than Ortiz... he hits harder, has better boxing ability and I believe he would school Ortiz and knock him out.

Let's look at the competition. Ortiz struggled to a draw with Peterson in his last fight. He also got knocked out by a guy who barely beat a shot and over the hill Morales. And he got knocked down twice in his last fight.

What does that say about him? His chin is not very sturdy and he has struggled with good fighters. Cotto has fought against the best fighters of the welterweight division. He won some and lost to some, but he certainly wouldn't lose to a chinny fighter who struggles against good competition.
