I'd say Ortiz-Maidana could go either way at 147 but if you listend to people on here you'd think Ortiz is a no hoper and Maidana is the best thing since sliced bred. Still though I'd like to a real 147 get this fight and Berto does not deserve all of the money and hype he is getting imo.

Rico....I have made this attempt over & over & over again. The entire ESB does not like Berto. And everything he does is met with EXTREME HATRED. In fact they think size difference in Berto vs Ortz looks like this:

    Furthermore, the tale of tap:

    Berto - 5ft 8 and 72" reach
    Ortiz - 5ft 9 and 70" reach

Not much in it at all. If I could get further statistics - size of biceps, shoulders etc - I'm sure they'd be pretty even too. Ortiz is a very big lad for his weight.

Darryl... i rate Berto as a good fighter. But he simply needs to prove himself. I am not saying this is a bad fight at all and i will give credit to Berto for winning, however it cannot be denied that he is fighting a JWW moving up. Ok, Ortiz is probably a natural 147 now, but he is completely unproven at welter which is why it matters.

Berto has been holding the belt for too long and this isn't really a big enough challenge. Ortiz is a step in the right direction but i hope i don't hear him start calling everyone out after this fight because it is not going to be THAT impressive if he wins.

I see this fight as a big test for Andre and a chance for Ortiz to get back in the limelight. I am a fan of both and think this could turn out to be a FOTY candidate.

Ortiz has a chance with his power and is good fundamentally. He needs to fight with much more damn passion this is the hurt buisness. I can see Ortiz countering Berto when Berto is coming in recklessly so he does have a chance. As much as I dislike this fight it should be good and at least Ortiz has a chance for the upset albeit a Ortiz win over Berto wouldn't be too surprising. I wonder how Aydin/Berto would go? I think Berto would win that but he needs to just fight him to get him out of the way.

Fair enough, I didn't think of it like that.

    I agree with everything else.

Horrible. I'm tired of Berto avoiding big fights. He wants to fight Ortiz instead of Bradley?! Nobody wants to see him fight Ortiz even if it would make some money, it's a worthless fight for both of them.

You can't in any way defend Berto as he's fighting another 140-er - either a no good WW or a name LWW, that's all he ever does - but the new weight will benefit Ortiz who'll feel fresher, more explosive, and with the Amir Khan effect, less vulnerable. It could be a major boost to his mental strength which was his biggest issue at 140.

I wish him good luck, if he can take out Berto - I don't think he can win a decision - he'll be an excellent addition to the welterweight mix.
