I fear Ortiz would walk Joyce onto something he wouldn't recover from, but joe would have a chance and if a fight of this standing could be Made he should go for it. He's 32 and a win like this would make him relevant in a way that filling out a few Haymon cards fighting second raters never will.
I think it's too soon. But like others have said he hasn't got very long at all at 33. Maybe a couple of minor step ups next year and then throw him in with some top 10ers. I do rate him to do something if he handles the next few fights well.
Ain't happening, if they were fighting each other they'd just say so instead of saying they are fighting on the card. But Joyce has said he wants it, just not yet, so maybe this is being done to build interest in an eventual match up. If it were to happen, Ortiz has to be the favourite based off of resume and experience but at his age it wouldn't shock me if Joyce made Ortiz look old and pull off the upset.
Who do you throw him in with though, from the top 10? I can't see them lining up for him, unless someone seriously sweetens the deal. It'll likely have to be a top 10 from Haymon's stable, either way, I'm guessing.
True. He won't be easy work either way. But I'm sure a big Brit v Brit Fight would sell well and if he wins in good fashion could make him more appealing money wise.
Joyce is ready to face the top 10, when people say he is inexperienced he isn't. He was in WSB which is pretty much professional boxing and is at a very high level. He was an amateur for an age and was unlucky not to win gold. He's always had a style that would be better for the pro's. No one in the heavies has an engine like Joe Joyce he is relentless and will cause problems for anyone. He's been sparring top guys for years.
Not happening. Here's why: Wilder's team are targeting Ortiz next, if and when he dispatches Fury. Of course they want AJ, but team wilder aren't stupid; they know Joshua is fighting Whyte next. Ortiz is the only real PPV they can sell due to the first fight, and they know it will be an easier night now that Ortiz would be a year older. They ain't gonna risk Ortiz losing before then. I guarantee you that.
Ortiz wont fight Joyce knowing Wilder is on the same card.... Will wait and see how Joyce looks under new trainer, right now its a 50/50 fight. Id probably take younger Joyce bc his work rate is insane and Ortiz could be worn out if he cant stop Joyce. Ortiz would actually have to win a relevant fight IN 2018 and show hes still here. You wont see it though bc Ortiz hasn't taken serious fights outside title shots so I cant see him doing it against a 6'6 puncher with unpredictable style. Some of the posts on here are also insane...Joyce HAS 3 more years to develop even if he loses a fight, hes not on his death bed.
Great fight. I like both Ortiz and Joyce but i think Ortiz has too much for Joyce right now. Joyce has shown some issues with his chin at the amateurs, was KOd by Kuzmin and Beguerni and also hurt by Usyk in the WBS. I can see Ortiz stopping Joyce.
Joyce has looked very good so far. Much like Ortiz himself I think he's going to be ducked by contenders unless he can pay them big.
Joyce might not be a spring chicken but woolly mammoths still roamed the earth when Old Man River Ortiz first started collecting his pension. But seriously, I'd pick rank novice Joyce to beat this current shot version of Tyson ''2-Fast'' Fury which goes to show you how much of a farce the main event is and what a shameful opportunist Donkey is and I'm not joking about that either.
