Mayorga knocked Forrest out early and fought competitively with him in the rematch. Ortiz isn't fit to hold Forrest's jock, and Ortiz doesn't fight anything like Cory Spinks. He's not a huge welterweight, is right there to be hit, gets into exchanges and slugfests, and has a bad chin. Mayorga's durability and power is key here and gets Ortiz out quickly.
Ive seen both Forrest fights the first one was a suspect ref stoppage and the 2nd one he was lucky to get the decision. Ortiz comes in 165 on fight night. Ortiz is the more accurate puncher and better defence IMO.
The only thing thats obvious is that guys like Lara and K-9 would be troubled by that last version of mayorga that we saw.:deal
It wasn't a suspect stoppage at all. Forrest didn't respond to the referee when asked if he wanted to continue, in fact, the guy was in such bad shape he didn't appear to even know where he was. If it's suspect, show me Forrest's protest. I didn't see him argue at all with the stoppage. I scored the second fight to Mayorga (115-113). Forrest looked the worst I'd ever seen him in his prime in that fight. Mayorga would eviscerate Ortiz. It wouldn't last long at all. KO within 6, and that's not overrating Mayorga, that's being realistic. As long as we are talking in a Prime for Prime sense of course.
Ortiz wouldn't even make to the ring knowing how much of a mental midget Ortiz is the trash talking Mayorga would dish out to him would turn him in to a nervous wreck.
I think Ortiz will be wise enough not to trade punches with Mayorga. Though he has a power with him, he knows Mayorga can't be taken out that easy kinda like what Cotto did to him. I think Ortiz will get passed him by a clear UD. If Ortiz decides to exchange punches with him, I'll go with Mayorga :good
