Well it’s fight week for one of the best matches of 2023. I’m a big fan of both, but rooting for Vergil. Truth is it’s closer than most people think. Both had a similar number of amateur fights and have been doing great in the pros. Stan seems like the GGG type: Strong, comes forward, lots of jabs and a good chin. Both guys have some mountains to climb to get this win. What is everyone’s prediction? This fight isn’t getting talked about much.

Stan is a good fighter, he def has a chance, but if Vergil isn't drained and doesn't get with something huge, he should take this.

I also love the fact that Boots Ennis is fighting the same night as these guys. Later in the month, God willing, we get Spence and Crawford. That's the top five rated Ring and Transnational Board welterweights fighting in s a three week period.

Right now I have Crawford, Ennis and Ortiz winning. I can't wait to see how it all shakes out!

I'll be pulling for Stan, although my head says Ortiz. Can't wait should be a war.

Ortiz by KO. I would say that it will be easier than what people think. Let's see.

Hopefully the rhabdomyolysis wont affect Vergil's performance

Should be an all out war!

I hope it doesn’t either, but I really don’t know much about the lasting effects of this condition.

Ortiz says he’s feeling great and it looks like he’s gotten some tough sparring partners in for this camp so those are great signs. I honestly can’t wait, it’s rare when you get two undefeated, promising contenders to actually fight each other.

New HL from today. Stan is tough and has fast hands, hits hard, and picks and puts his shots together impressively and I fail to see how this won't be a barn burner unless one of them decides to change their style for this fight.

I like both guys so it's a case of may the best man win but if that happens to be Stan I hope he gets a fair shake from the judges and they don't rob him like they keep doing to fighters from his region of the world over there.

Here's my assessment from a while back before it got cancelled:

Stanionis is the better fighter, but Ortiz has better power.

In what way is Stanionis better? He's slightly sharper and faster than Ortiz. He is really good with counters and he knows how to find openings between shots. Watching his fights and see how he finds countering opportunities with all different types of styles. Ortiz is more of a grind you down kinda fighter, where as Stanionis is more versatile.

Defensively, he is also better than Ortiz. His guard is very tight and his footwork is slightly better than the plodding Ortiz. Overall, Stanionis has a better amateur pedigree than Ortiz.

I do favor Ortiz slightly (60/40) because of his power, but I wouldn't be surprised if Stanionis wins by TKO or decision.

I really don’t think power will be much of a factor in this fight. Both guys have sturdy chins, especially Stanionis. I think it’s gonna end in a close decision.

Stan, I'm your biggest fan, this is Eminem.

I'm rolling with Stan in this one.

Two of my current favorites. Potential fight of the year.
