These are not good numbers. Somewhat concerning. Showtime has had poor ratings. PBC is not doing well either. At some point, I'm curious to know if HBO will discontinue its boxing brand. Imagine if Showtime and HBO pick up UFC or MMA! Then boxing is in big trouble. Thoughts?
that was a bad matchup, and everyone already knew who would win. Showcase fights are bad for boxing when there are too many, and especially when on HBO,or Shotime. This content is protected
Great numbers for a non-title HW fight held at the D.C. Armoury between two contenders. These numbers are in line with Hopkins-Shumenov, also at the Armoury. The attendance numbers were great. The joint was packed and the crowd was excited and as enthusiastic as I have seen from a fight of this level. The Jessie Vargas vs. Sadam Ali undercard was a great match up and very competitive. What more can boxing fans ask for. I give Thompson his props for stepping in on short notice to take this fight. He really showed the heart of a true boxer and gave his all to try to get an upset. Oh, and BTW; UFC sux and only appeals to Donald Drumpf voters. Dana only has one real fighter in the whole dam gang, and that's Anderson "Spider" Silva whop just beat the pigeon shet out of that bloody Brit.
The Vargas vs Ali fight was a great match up! I hope to see more of these As for UFC, i do feel its taking over as the preeminent combat sport in the USA
boxing is dying, it is the worst kept secret on earth. no one in the states can name a single active boxer.
Numbers are ok for who the headliners were when you factor in Showtime had a card competitng directly with it not too mention the UFC card. HBO numbers seem to be decent this year but Showtime's ratings are struggling this year and a lot of last.
Relatively speaking, these numbers are higher than ESPN's Klitscho-Jennings rating, which was a world HW title fight. As I recall, that fight averaged 650-700K. These numbers are great considering neither fighter holds a title and this was a non-title fight, not even a direct title contention fight. 750K is a good solid starting number for Ortiz.
