That was one of the worst robberies I’ve ever seen. Ortiz beat Lopez 9-3 or at max 8-4 it was not a close fight, it was a Floyd Mayweather master class. If it was Mayweather in there everyone would have said that was a 12-0 shutout Lopez lost to the guy Loma beat just a couple fights ago.
While arguments can be made in favor of Ortiz, 8-4 is simply unrealistic. The fight was definitely closer. You don't win rounds for simply eluding your opponent, you need to throw punches and land them as well. The Mayweather comparison is meaningless. Mayweather would not just run but hit as well. For example, Mayweather threw 435 punches against Pacquaio and landed 148 of them with 34% accuracy. Ortiz on the other hand threw 409 punches, landing a mediocre 80 with 19.6% success. The way I saw it, Ortiz did not do enough to win many rounds and neither did Lopez.
The fight was close and there were several rounds that neither guy did enough to win. That being said Lopez got given a nice hometown decision and clearly received a gift, I felt he lost 7-5. Another bad day for boxing.
He started running after a few good rounds. The judges seemed determine to not let another Shakur kinda fight and make sure the runner gets penalized . Let that be a lesson for all fighters to engage all 12 rounds and not take some rounds off.
