I don't mind a champion fighting a not top 10 fighter once in a while. Not all figths should be hard fights. Fighting only number one contenders is what have got many fighters permanently injured. I see it as a way of maintaining your skils. But a fighter should not expect to make millions for those fights. Plus, if you hold a division title you should fight people on that division at least once in a while. Look at Julio Cesar Chavez record. He fought many not ranked fighters. But he also fought the best on the division. Just not one after the other

 

May be before seeing Cotto against Mosley I would have agree with you. But Mosley didn't make Cotto look silly so I can't see Oscar doing it

the two people that sold the last two fights and made mayweather money were hatton and delahoya. mayweather's fanbase aint that big, so if a fight with cotto is going to be done then cotto is going to have to be the one with the fanbase, and at the moment its big, but just not big enough.

 

Fighters have always fought in between fights. No big deal. Every once in a while the in between fight becomes important in history as in Ali/Wepner or DLH/Sturm. Cotto will make it up with Marg.

 

Cotto just fought Mosley, and now he's about to fight Margarito.

Both those fights prove more than fighting Oscar.
