Yep I think this says it all... "The charismatic Golden Boy, 36, ends his career with 10 world titles in six weight classes, with the broadest fan base of any fighter in the United States and as one of the two biggest money makers ever in the sport with Mike Tyson." ODH was one of the reasons for me getting into boxing along with Mike. Some of my fav fights was the chavez fight....stopped early due to cut...the guy had a great fight record of 100 fights and 1 loss when he took on ODH and the Camacho fight as well huge crowd great build up. Anyway he will make gazillions in promotion and come out and fight Mayweather in 16 mths to make another $25m....good luck and well done Golden Boy :good
Great career comes to an end....probably went on for one or two too many...but won't die wondering...and didn't tarnish his record too much. The timing is pretty good.
Yeah i know but the 2nd Mosley fight was debatable as well. Great career and as one of the previous posters stated, my favourite non australian boxer.
He fought the best of his time, and some of his losses were tight, some of his wins too. But dodge was not a word you can use in the same day as saying DHL.
true but he did run like a fairy for the last 4 rounds.I like Oscar dont get me wrong but I laughed when the decision didnt go his way in that fight. But other than that great career took on great fighters and only lost to the top fighters well done Oscar:good
Didnt see that fight but a lot of people say Sturn got robbed but they are ususally Oscar haters was it as bad as they make out?
Great fighter oscar, fought the best, was involved in some great fights, won & loss some with questions marks surrounding them. I personally thought he beat trinidad by 5 rds, I thought he beat mosley in the rematch by 2 rds but I had sturm up by 3 rds. There won't be another Oscar De La Hoya anytime soon. He had it all in & out of the ring.
Great fighter. I think he could've been even better than what he was, but that's neither here nor there at this point in time.
While I don't deny his talent he was one of those fighters I just never took a shine to for some reason. I'd always watch his fights going for his opponent. I will watch with interest the second phase of his career, the promotional and business (Ring Mag).
I was much the same. I was cheering for Sweet Pea, Quartey and Tito against him. He was fun to watch though for the most part.
Must be the pretty boys I don't like, was never a fan of Leonard either. I remember after my self imposed 'exile' from the sport discovering boxrec and letting out a little cheer after checking De La Hoyas record and seeing he had lost his unbeaten record. Still, he raised the sports profile so good luck to him, don't think he'll lose any sleep over my lack of fandom.
