Okay, maybe I misread what you were saying.

As far as I know, we may possibly have a disagreement on Marciano, but you haven't seemed disagreeable at all and I don't intend to be either.

 

Those who think Bonavena would be the best today are jaded types who have problems giving credit to modern fighters. I am a Bonavena fan, but he would not be the #1 guy today.

Ringo's big wins are a close MD over a slow Chavalo, a points win over an older Folley, a points win over Martin, and a points win over Mildenberger. Solid, but not special.

However Ringo lost every time to the best fighters he fough.They were Ali, Frazier, Patterson, Lyle, and Ellis. Bonavena was not elite. He was only good enough to make the elite fighters work a bit to beat him. Bonevna’s resume tells us he lost to the best on a regular basis. While it is ture that Bonavena did fight many top fighters, we should also note that his final ring record of 58-9 is inflated with too many journeyman.

 

Oscar was a durable guy but he would be facing several men even bigger than those he dueled with in the 60s.Most of todays heavies are abysmal in my opinion,but the Klits would both beat him up,Folley ,Patterson,,and Ellis comfortably outboxed Oscar and they were small heavies ,relatively speaking.Its true Tyson was spectacular in his prime against some big guys ,but Oscar was no Tyson he didnt have his speed of hand or foot ,nor his defdence ,and certainly not his power,today Bonavena would be in the lower half of thr top ten and possibly could beat the likes of Ibragimov,etc,but then some of the blokes down my pub could.
