The best versions of these guys. I’d favor Oscar but damn I think this would be exciting if Bert showed up in good form
I think Bonavena might be too shy, he was one of those guys who took turns to fight, lIf Cooper is in shape he’d probably win this - in the real world most of the time he comes in out of shape and gets stopped.
I would confidently bet a boatload of money on Bonavena to stop Cooper who never beat anyone as good as Oscar and lost to several who werent nearly as good.
Power Even Speed Cooper Chin Oscar Offense Cooper Defense Oscar Stamina Even Strength Oscar Ring IQ Oscar Accuracy Maybe even Heart Cooper Pretty close fight would be my guess. Since the two of them are both close range stocky guys who love to let their hands go, the fans would be treated to an exciting war at ring center. I think Cooper might surprise Oscar with his slight edge in hand speed and sharp hooks. Oscar's slight edges in ring smarts and defense make a big difference in a long war because he'll be protecting himself more often and thus able to land more on average. I see it going the distance with Oscar taking a narrow points win. If there are any knockdowns, both guys get up and keep pounding away. Since they're operating at close range and have good but not great power with solid chins, they'd have a hard time being able to close the show (also great for the fans).
Bonavena was too good for Cooper. He wins it one way or the other. Could have been a fun fight though.
Ringo would find a way to last longer, you know what I mean ? I'm not going to say that Ringo was more skilled than Cooper... nor he hit harder. But for ****ing sure Ringo Bonavena was the last man standing if they threw bombs at each other for something like 9 or 10 rounds...
A little bit. Mercer was a bit bigger than Oscar, punched harder, and had better fundamentals. I think Mercer was a level above Cooper and just allowed himself to fight at a crazy pace that benefited Cooper. I think it looks a little bit like Frazier vs Oscar, a little bit of Davis vs Cruz too.
Bonavena went 25 rounds with Bert Coopers master in Joe Frazier who trained Bert Cooper. The pupil aka Bert Cooper would not be as successful as his master was.
TBH Mercer had a freak injury early on vs Cooper with the broken jaw. So he had to adapt his gameplan by smothering Coopers work in close so Cooper couldn't cleanly hit that broken jaw. Despite Mercer's horrible injury I still think he won near enough every round.
