Moorer...because he's a much higher class of fighter and his chinnyness is vastly overrated. Bonavena is tough, awkward, and can punch. He may tempt Moorer into a sustained brawl, and he very likely goes the distance either way. Moorer UD.

I'd have my money on Moorer. I could see a stoppage.

Moore by decision. His ability and straighter punches should get there before Bonavena is able to get off, and he should be able to outbox him and tie him up when needed

Bonavena. he was too strong and awkward for Moorer..and more importantly, he would find that fragile chin of MM's and have him down a number of times in either stopping him of winninng a sloppy decision. Come on..Moorer didn't have the fortitude to beat the Bull..like Ali, Frazier and Lyle.

Yes with Moorer getting stopped. Bonavena is not Botha..he was more to handle than Moorer can deal with. The Bonavena that made life so hard for Ali before that miracle 15th round..and the guy who decked Frazier twice and went a total of 25 rounds with a near prime Joe Frazier and who beat Leotis Martin, would land awkward, wild bombs on Moorer and win an ugly decision. Moorer wouldn't be sturdy enough for Oscar.

I'll take Moorer via UD, there is a gulf in skill here.

 Remind us how many fights Joe and Oscar both had in that first fight with the knockdowns. That will be funny.

Moorer UD. Clear too. Would look like Foreman-Moorer without the KO.

Well, I was including the rematch with Joe as a feather in Oscar's cap, relatively speaking. 15 rounds with a '68 version of joe Frazier. Joe had destroyed George Chuvalo and Buster Mathis and was highly regarded as a puncher at that time with a suffocating, perpetual movement style as well. Bonavena displayed his toughness vs a Smokin joe bent on revenge..before the fight Joe vowed to "punish Bonavena" before knocking him out to atone for the closeness of the first fight and the two kds he suffered. In fact Bonavena never came close to being decked and by accounts landed some of the hardest punches of the fight. You guys are PAINFULLY overrating Moorer here ust as you're underrating the man who gave Ali one of his toughest fights. A better question to you would be to tell me when Michael Moorer ever showed himself to be a legitimite heavyweight with any kind of durability. That fragile chin of his would have betrayed him vs any of the top heavyweights of the 70's, as well as some of the guys in his own era that he never got around to fighting...Bowe, Tyson, Lewis, etc,. and what do you think would happen vs either of the Klitschko's? Holyfield properly blew him out in a rematch as well as Tua effortlessly snuffing him out as you well know. Do your homework a little better regarding this thread topic and realize that Frans Botha was a handle and a half for MM before the South African succumbed to a late tko...and Oscar Bonavena was a decidedly better fighter than Botha.

Moorer was a fine lightheavyweight...fine but not great by any means..but as a heavyweight, he was an overachiever...capitalizing on a sub par Holyfield who proved his point with emphasis in their rematch....and were it not for a near hysterical Atlas's Oscar winning performance as a cheerleader/motivator, it's doubtful that Moorer would have even taken that first fight.....as holyfield may have squeezed by.

    Appropriate response:

Okay, I can live with me, Much, Bodhi, Kal and your Young-fanatic brother Tommy all apparently PAINFULLY overrating Moorer just for picking him against such an amazing pugilist, and that you're a super-genius for understanding his limitations better than us, as well as the couldhavebeenachampioninanyothereraness of Bonavena and all other contenders from the sixties and seventies.

I should do my homework, given my obvious ignorance and the fact that I clearly haven't seen either of these guys fight or I wouldn't have picked the wrong guy. I deeply apologize for speaking on the subject and urge Much, Bodhi, Kal and Tommy to do the same(the only other participants in this thread, ironically), as they apparently are in the same boat, rowing through the river of ignorance but speaking as learned men. Thank you for teaching me/us.

PS: How do you attain the privilege of watching these fights of which you speak? Did you see each live or are you a Freemason (as many of these special societies have actual fight film)?

I come to this site equally for the laughs as for the boxing. Thanks for making it all worthwhile, guys.

BTW, I'd pick Moorer. People are very harsh towards him because of the Foreman fight, but he was a talented guy. And he would've beaten George in a rematch. Oscar is a wild card and it's conceivable that he could win, but I wouldn't pick him.
