James Tillis & Pinklon Thomas were not d softest tomato cans around .
James Tillis went a 10 rds distance with Alexander Zolkin after Morison stopped him @ 1 .
D Thomas fight seems like a fix (probably they didn't put enough vaseline on him in purpose so it will b a stoppage that doesn't matter) , unless i watch it and c otherwise .
Not claiming Morison's record was not padded but whose wasn't ?
Bonavena retired without fighting Quarry , Shavers , Foreman , Young , Jose Luis Garcia , Al Jones , Doug Jones , Mac Foster , Ron Stander , Sonny Liston . That was not an eased upbringing , that was quite a fringe career especially considering that during that era they used 2 fight each other .
Oscar Bonavena did great 4 d journeyman he was destined 2b , but it's not like having a well past his prime former couldn't have been early in 1's career makes him a great fighter or even cancels d fact that Bonavena did not fight all d names i mentioned above during his entire career . And then look @ who he did fight : Frazier *2 (2 out of 3 exceptions) , Ali (Bonavena got his ass handed 2 him) , 37 years old overstuffed lightheavy in Floyd Patterson (Bonavena still failed @ stopping d always fragile Patterson) , a rematch with Folley (Bonavena got a MD against d man who used 2b KOd by lightheavies during his prime , did he even deserve that MD against 37 years old Folley ?) , George Chuvalo (d 3rd out of 3 exceptions , Bonavena won a decision but does it erase d rest of his performances ?)
, Ron Lyle (32 years old Bonavena got beat by a 33 years old man whom just failed @ stopping a 34 years old Jimmy Ellis afterwards in that same year)
Bonavena , Frazier , Quarry , Young & Lyle surely became mythic figures 4 some reason . That reason must b because they fought d self called "The Greatest" . Angelo Dundee and his descendants (Bokaj&Stevie G) did a great job brainwashing d public , but in truth Ali is below #6 in SHW H2H ATG ranking , which is very respectable if u ask me , but not d greatest 4 sure . Actually it is just possible that I overrate Ali myself and need 2 reconsider his ranking . And Frazier top 20 by d same criteria .
So y does Bonavena deserve more respect 4 his admittedly respectable achievements with Frazier & Chuvalo more than Rahman deserves 4 his vs Lewis & Sanders ? Actually Rahman's biggest wins were extremely more decisive and telling than Bonavena's , and his losses not any more embarrassing , at least not considering d ability of his opponents .
Yes , I know Rademacher & Brian London will always b considered 5 notches above Jeff Wooden , Robert Hawkins , Obed Sullivan & Monte Barrett .
