Please try to use your imagination here. Lets say we switch the resumes of De La Hoya and Duran, De La Hoya has an identical fight record to indentical opponents of Duran, and Duran has an identical fight record to identical opponents of De La Hoya. De La Hoya keeps his own cosmetic physical appearance and personality, Duran keeps his own cosmetic physical appearance and personality.

    Please try your very hardest to answer honestly the following questions;
    1) How does this effect their current rankings in general?
    2) Who was more successful against elite opposition?
    3) Who fought more elite opposition?
    4) Is De La Hoya completely forgiven for 'No mas'
    5) Did Duran deserve the nod against Sweet Pea?

If he has the record of duran and vice versa then i rate them like i do now.
You cant rate someone based on personality in my opinion, just rate them based on their fights.

Okay would you agree that you're in the vast minority with that stance? and what about questions 2-5?

Am i really? i cant rate ricky hatton above floyd because i like his personality more, if they had the other ones record i would rate him higher.

) Who was more successful against elite opposition?
If DLH lived in that era and beat srl and the other great fights i would say he was more succesfull than duran because in your scenario duran would have lost to mosley, hopkins, trinidad, mayweather so than the answer would be dlh

    3) Who fought more elite opposition?
Duran is a top 10 fighter and his record is better so dlh for your hypothesis.

    4) Is De La Hoya completely forgiven for 'No mas'
If he after that did what duran did i think he would although duran isnt completely forgiven by everyone.

    5) Did Duran deserve the nod against Sweet Pea?
Assuming he fought the same as dlh and took the same rounds in that case it would be as big as a question as it is today.

What I posted on the identicle thread

Are you trying to say delahoya is underrated because hes supposedly good looking and Duran is overrated because hes a mean looking SOB?

If Delahoya switched places with Duran he would lose every fight to Leonard, Benitez, Hearns, Hagler and possibly Buchanon, Barkley, Dejesus, Moore. Delahoya also wouldnt be able to stay at lightweight that long and didnt start as a Bantam like Duran.

Duran beats everyone on DLHs ledger uncontroversally up until he fights Hopkins

    Duran is simply far better

My beef with Duran is the same beef i have with Tyson. Macho assholes(you can say its a violent sport and claim talk up their out-of-rings qualities whilst ignoring their shortcomings, but they were made alot of ******* moves in the ring), macho assholes are glorified beyond belief and carry an aura, but nice guys like De La Hoya and Leonard are called pussies and bitches and ragged on by all but a few, especially on here. Despite their domination, both failed against their most elite opposition more often than not. And a plethora of excuses are made for them.

This particular post is objective though, lets look at my questions.

    1) How does this effect their current rankings in general?
    - Every single fan of boxing holds bias. Duran is perhaps the most popular, crowd pleasing, bad boy aura boxer of all time. Oscar, is a cross dressing homo. I think it would definatley effect their standings if their accolades were switched. And im sure you must agree, despite needing to defend your hero?

    2) Who was more successful against elite opposition?
    - Duran, you cannot ignore the facts, did not farewell against his most elite opposition, you can bring up excuses, past his prime, bring up his domination at lightweight(but that is not in question), but the facts are he lost more than won against his elite opposition. Leonard went 2-1 with him and made him quit, Hearns KOed him, Hagler beat him, Benitez beat him, Camacho beat him twice...so he has Cuevas and Palomino, 2-1 with De Jesus. Thats 5 wins, 8 losses against the most elite opposition and losses to the obvious best of them.
De La Hoya fought lots of elite opposition and came out on top more or less. Wins over Vargas, Mayorga, Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavezx2, Camacho, Quartey and Gatti. With losses to Shane Mosleyx2, Mayweather, Hopkins, Pacquiao and Trinidad. Thats 8 wins and 6 losses.
You will argue that Duran could beat any and DLH cant beat any, but here is fact. Elite opposition they fought.

    3) Who fought more elite opposition?
Lets see how many elite fighters they fought.
Duran - Ray Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Benitez, Cuevas, Palomino, Camacho, De Jesus = 8
De La Hoya - Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather Jr, Trinidad, Vargas, Mayorga, Gatti, Camacho, Quartey, Hopkins = 12
You will argue that Duran could beat any and DLH cant beat any, but here is fact. Elite opposition they fought.

    4) Is De La Hoya completely forgiven for 'No mas'
Would a cross dressing, soft spoken homo ***** ***** be forgiven for quitting right in the middle of a fight that wasnt particularly hurt in, just losing? No i dont think he could live that one down

    5) Did Duran deserve the nod against Sweet Pea?
Is Whitaker a huge, huge, esb favourite? yes. Is DLH one of the most hated and bagged on? yes. Did DLH win the fight? yes. Is he credited for it by most? absolutely not. Would Duran be credited for it? I think he most definatley would be.

I know whats coming. A shitstorm about how Duran would do this and that to DLH's opponents, how he was shot in his losses, DLH's wins are controvertial. Duran bla blah blah Duran blah. But please do this for objective purposes..look at my specific questions...and tell me i dont have a fact based, credible argument, for these specific questions.

Okay i apologise for making assumptions about you. But what about the questions i asked and the answers i gave? I was quick to make those assumptions because i assumed(with very good reason) that this post will be completely disregarded and spat on by Duran fans(which is the majority of esb). I think i have a very valid point here. I truly believe if you switch them around, DLH with Duran's resume does not make the top 20 here on ESB, and Duran with De La Hoya's resume still makes the top 10.

Either your ignorant or your letting your bias obscure any objectivity you may have. Gatti, Mayorga and old Camacho are elite?

    For Duran you missed:

    1. Prime Ken Buchanon - arguably a top10 lightweight of all time in his prime. Better than a past prme Chavez, vargas, Mayorga, Gatti, Old Camacho, Quartey and arguably Tito and Molsey

    2. Barkley - WBC MW Champ who beat Hearns twice. Duran was much smaller being an ex bantamweight and won. Better win than most of Oscars especially considering the weight jumping

    3. Moore - 154lb Champion

    4. Mamby 140lb Champ

    5. Castro - future MW champ, most had Duran winning both fights despite him being mid 40s

    6. Camacho - despite beingin his mid-40s most had Duran beating Camacho

I agree. I think Duran is overrated. I think he is great, but not top 5-10. More like top 25-30. He did not ever dominate a great fighter. Fact.

    +1

If Duran had had DLH's looks and approach, he'd have been the Latino SRL. And as it was, he basically was the Latino SRL anyhow, just more overtly nasty.

If Oscar had had Duran's looks and approach, he'd have been more popular with Mexicans and have had less crossover appeal.

All of those "questions" are irrelevant, because you are confusing physiognomy with boxing ability, for whatever reason I have no clue. However you try to spin it, Oscar isn't half the fighter Duran was, and there's no point pretending he ever was.
