    Wanted general's opinions on this classic post..

    Please try to use your imagination here. Lets say we switch the resumes of De La Hoya and Duran, De La Hoya has an identical fight record to indentical opponents of Duran, and Duran has an identical fight record to identical opponents of De La Hoya. De La Hoya keeps his own cosmetic physical appearance and personality, Duran keeps his own cosmetic physical appearance and personality.

    Please try your very hardest to answer honestly the following questions;
    1) How does this effect their current rankings in general?
    2) Who was more successful against elite opposition?
    3) Who fought more elite opposition?
    4) Is De La Hoya completely forgiven for 'No mas'
    5) Did Duran deserve the nod against Sweet Pea?

    Please try your very hardest to answer honestly the following questions;

    Not much

    Obviously Duran.

    Just about Duran

    If the circumstances were the same, then he's forgiven to the same extent as Duran.

    Did DLH deserve it?

    I think what you're trying to say is that DLH and Duran get treated differently because of their background/appearance.

    I don't think it would change much.

    Are you trying to say delahoya is underrated because hes supposedly good looking and Duran is overrated because hes a mean looking SOB?

    If Delahoya switched places with Duran he would lose every fight to Leonard, Benitez, Hearns, Hagler and possibly Buchanon, Barkley, Dejesus, Moore. Delahoya also wouldnt be able to stay at lightweight that long and didnt start as a Bantam like Duran.

    Duran beats everyone on DLHs ledger uncontroversally up until he fights Hopkins

    Duran is simply far better

    ....For christ ****ing sake. Not what i asked. I posted a resume switching scenario, i clearly stated(overstated) the stipulations. Please answer my 5 questions. One of the questions was not how much do you love Duran? If you misunderstood then sorry for being snappy, i'll just explain, the scenario is that DLH beat Leonard, lost to him him twice, lost to hearns, hagler benitez hasan identical record etc...same for Duran with DLH's

    In that case delahoya would rightly be considered better than duran, but it wouldnt happen because delahoya isnt that good and duran isnt that bad

    Your questions were impossible to answer really because Delahoya wasnt good enough to beat the likes of Leonard in a million years, if he was good enough he'd be a different fighter and far better

    Mate, the scenario is that De La Hoya fought Duran's fights, completely identical, every single punch and movement identical, every single decision indentical. Only he did it with his cosmetic physical appearance and his personality. So its all already happened...but ive switched the faces and personalities.

    He would be rated the same, why should we rate dlh below duran now in that scenario because of his looks? he can look like the ****ing hunchback of notre dam but if he does what duran did in the ring vs those opponents i would rate him the same.

    1. Well, I think Duran would havr fared better against Oscar's opposition but since he wouldn't have the Leonard fight, his exceptional Lightweight run or his longevity, I think it would hurt his standing. He'd be acknowledged as the best of his era but wouldn't be ranked top 10 ATG.

    I think Oscar would have lost several more fights than Duran did. He would be competative in most of them though, he might even have some good moments against Leonard before the inevitable loss. I think Oscar was good enough that he might always look "in the fight" with the possible exception of Hearns. I'm not sure he'd be able to score a signature win though and I have my doubts that he'd do enough to be remembered "great".

    2. Duran was more successful against the elite. His win over Leonard is enough to make that argument. His wins over Buchanan and Palomino are probably better than Oscars wins. Add in Barkley, Cuevas and Moore and the answer seems obvious.

    Oscar fought better competition than anyone else from this era but he lacked the wins at the absolute top level to compete with Duran.

    3. Oscar squeezed a lot of elite fighters onto his resume, especially when you consider he didn't have that many fights compared to the old-timers. Duran just fought more though.

    4. Oscar would have been crucified for the No Mas. There was always a backlash against him for being a pretty-boy, having it all too easy etc. If he had quit in his prime, I think he would have gotten a harder time than Duran and although Duran was never allowed to forget it, it would be a stick used to beat Oscar at every available opportunity.

    5. No. I scored that fight a draw with Pea giving away the last round.

    In which case Delahoya would be the top10 P4P of all time and Duran would only be top60. Are you of the opinion delahoya is as good as Duran as people only dont rate Delahoya due to his personality :huh
