Oscar fought almost everyone, but there were guys who he should have definitely given rematches to. I say almost because he didn't dare step in the ring with Winky Wright. After one of his fights he was asked if he would finally give Winky a shot and he replied, "I'm not fighting Winky Wright!" Smart move on his part. Winky would've schooled him. As far as guys he should have rematched, Ike Quartey who I thought beat Oscar close. Pernell Whitaker, who I thought got the better of Oscar. Felix Sturm clearly defeated Oscar, which even he admits today. I know I am in the minority here, but I had Trinidad winning his fight against Oscar. On the other hand, Oscar definitely deserved to win the second Mosley fight. No matter how you slice it, De La Hoya was a great fighter.
Whitaker was way past prime and still managed to show his own greatness and watching it again recently I can see why some people thought he deserved the W and again the Quartey fight (having seen it again recently) I think Quartey should have got the win even though he got dropped near the end.
Winky really ****ed up the end up of his career, apparently he turned down a **** load of fights from Calzaghe to the Taylor rematch to Oscar all because he thought he deserved some sort of prime HW superfight money atsch

He doesnt want me to beat his Golden Boy, 30 year-old Wright told SecondsOut on Friday. Here is one article which says you're wrong. Winky Wright Calls Out Oscar De La Hoya Middleweight Champion, Ronald Winky Wright Calls Out De La Hoya for Historic Bout (St. Petersburg, FL June 11, 2008) History is in the making as the boxing scene is buzzing about the recent retirement of Floyd Mayweather and its effect on the Oscar De La Hoya. As De La Hoya eagerly searches for a worthy opponent, he will find one in former Middleweight champion, Ronald Winky Wright, of whom hes been avoiding for years. Upon hearing the news, Wright exclaims, Its destiny Floyd retired, nobody cares to fight Oscar, but here I am. He cant run from me any more. De La Hoya has yet to concede to Wrights call; however, Wright plans to aggressively pursue De La Hoya. Im not giving up Wright says, If he thinks Im going to fall back and let it go hes wrong. He must have forgotten who I am. Im the guy whos fought around the world to prove Im the best pound for pound fighter. And after I pound Oscar, the world will see what Ive been telling them my whole career: that I am the greatest. While Wrights comments may raise eyebrows due to his hiatus from the ring due to his recovery period and alleged outstanding financial requests, he assures that this fight can be a reality. He states, See, you cant get caught up in the hype. I can and will do everything in my power to make this fight happen. Ive been dying to get at Oscar for years, but hes just been too scared. He, along with the rest of the world, may think the fight wont happen because Ive been out of the ring or want too much money, but thats not true. Wright continues to clear up the confusion and speculation, adding why Oscar needs to step up to the plate. What the media wont tell you is that Ive always had to get the short end of the stick in order to make fights happen. He says. I took a pay cut, so these fights could happen. So now that Im asking for what Im worth I supposedly want too much money? Everyone knows a Wright De La Hoya fight is a big ticket, so give me my justice. Ive worked for it and I deserve it. He knows what this fight can do for him too. He knows he can really get paid, so why keep running? Its about time that the best get back to fighting the best in boxing. No more warm up fights. Just get in the ring with me and go for twelve rounds. Just do it. No official discussions have been made, but Wrights camp is ready, willing and able. Damian Ramirez, Wrights advisor agrees with Wright. He says, Its about time. This needs to happen. Not just for Winky, but for boxing. Everyones hungry for a fight like this. And another. Where are your "Oscar calls out Winky articles"???
The one time it was rumored that Oscar would fight Winky, they made him such a shitty offer that any respectable fighter would have turned it down.
It is so well known, yet you can't show any proof of that. Winky went on to do other things like outclass Tito, which Oscar didn't do and defeat Mosley twice which Oscar also didn't do. Regardless of the particulars of the deal, Oscar would have lost clearly to Winky and I am pretty sure Oscar knew that. The only common opponent that they share that Oscar actually outperformed Winky was against Vargas. Winky fought him when he was undefeated, Oscar fought him after he had been destroyed by Tito.
They offered him what he was worth, what has he done at that point to demand anything beyond? Many fighters accept "shitty" offers from big names knowing they're heading for serious exposure and the ultimate chance to win and make millions after it. It's a risk MANY fighters went through to establish themselves. For the record, a guy who would move up to fight Bernard Hopkins in his very first fight at middleweight sure as hell isn't scared of Winky Wright of all fighters.
First of all, you didn't read the word "scared" in any of what I typed. I never said Oscar was scared of Winky. Oscar had balls, his resume speaks volumes in that regard. Oscar was a brilliant match maker too. He knew the risk far outweighed the reward against Wright. And yes, there were other fighters who took less money than they might have expected to fight Oscar because they knew it should mean more in a rematch, but that wasn't always the case. Mosley didn't make more in the rematch than he did in their first fight with Oscar and he won the first one. "Shane Mosley burst onto the pay-per-view scene nearly ten years ago when, on June 17, 2000, he defeated then WBC welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya via split decision in a bout that, to this day, is still one of his best performances. Undefeated at the time, the victory earned Mosley a guaranteed minimum of $4.5 million and it appeared as though he was on his way to bigger and better purses. Subsequent back-to-back losses to Vernon Forrest, however, would prevent Mosley from seeing an increase in his earnings until a rematch with De La Hoya would again give him the opportunity to boost his take-home pay. Having already defeated De La Hoya in the first bout, Mosely naturally felt that he was worth more for the second bout. Initially, he stood firm on his demand for a minimum of $8 million after learning that De La Hoya was guaranteed $12 million. In the end, however, Mosley balked and settled for just $4.25 million when De La Hoya's promoter, Bob Arum at the time, called his bluff." Just a correction, Hopkins wasn't his first fight at middleweight, Sturm was. A fight Oscar should have lost, mind you. The fight with B-Hop was at a catchweight anyway and Oscar still got stopped. He was hoping the weight drain and age of Bernard would enable him to overcome the challenge in front of him, but as we all know, that did not happen.
I agree with you about the weight. Winky was naturally the bigger man, not to mention very skilled. This is not a hate campaign against Oscar, I actually like him. So Oscar outclassed Tito? I remember seeing him run his ass off in the latter part of that fight. No, Winky outclassed Tito. Oscar had some rounds where he dominated him and then gave quite a few rounds away. We are debating over terminology at this point, but if someone gets outclassed, it would be the whole fight. There is no partial-outclassing.
Fantastic fighter. I thought Oscar beat - Tito, Mosely 2, drew Mosely 1, Sturm, Whittaker, remember watching live and thought he beat Mayweather, but will have to watch again, I remember asking 2 other people I know who watched it live and they thought Oscar had done enough, and only think Oscar really lost to Hopkins to big (as he was for alot of his opponents) and Pacquiao when Oscar was badly drained at the end of his career
