Yesterday I watched a biography about Oscar de la Hoya on tv. It focused on his early days.

When his mother was dying, he made a promise to her: that he would win the Gold medal in the Olympic games. Two years later, he won the final in Barcelona. Oscar explained his return to the US, then how he visited the cemetery. It was very touching.

You can't hate a guy like Oscar. He's a role model, a life of success.

Did it have the part where he ripped off Lou Duva for big money when Duva and other promoters were padding his father's pockets when he was still an amateur?

How about when he gave that medal he promised his mother to Bob Arum?

    * He has since asked Arum to return the medal

I don't know what he's like as a human being but I think he's a pretty over-rated fighter for sure.

He seems like a great guy, and he is a warrior who has fought the very best without exception. He has been absolutely great for the sport of boxing as well. Every person makes mistakes, and we will never know what actually happened in certain contraversies, but i don't understand the hate either. The guy is a legend in the sport. Hearing how he overcame adversity, to become a superstar is absolutely inspirational mate, i totally agree.

Agreed Too much player hating on this forum. Oscar has acheived the status and success that every fighter aspires to reach and through Golden Boy Promotions has helped others get closer to those big fights they need as well.

    Don't hate the player, folks.
